Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I might - not a particularly academic, but not bad. If from a non psych background might be okay. Fairly pessimistic view of offenders and not really focused on children as much as psychopaths generally. Not really a reflection on violent children.

Would you recommend Savage Spawn to your friends? Why or why not?

    As above

Did Richard Gilliland do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    Not really applicable

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.

Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

Where does The Lost Fleet: Dauntless rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty good listen. Heavy on the 'real physics' aspects and military lingo. Voice acting is very good, with no silly sounds, and consistent characters across the whole book.

The pain of abandonment, both real and metaphorical, can cast a shadow over our entire adult experience. Warming the Stone Child investigates the abandoned child archetype in world myths and cultures to find clues about the process of healing the "unmothered" child within us all. Spiced with Dr. Estes' wonderful storytelling, Warming the Stone Child is a unique listening experience with a practical edge.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I found the sole focus on the psychoanalytic / Jungian approach a bit draft and not practically helpful

Would you ever listen to anything by Clarissa Pinkola Estes again?

    NO!!

What three words best describe Clarissa Pinkola Estes’s voice?

    Okay, whimsical, breathy

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disappointment, no real life examples just fables, I expected more.

    Any additional comments?

If you want evidenced based practical approach to working with abused / neglected children do not buy this book. If you want a hippie / new agey view on fables, then go for it.

Dr. Ross Greene, a distinguished clinician and pioneer in the treatment of kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges, has worked with thousands of explosive children, and he has good news: these kids aren't attentionseeking, manipulative, or unmotivated, and their parents aren't passive, permissive disciplinarians. Rather, explosive kids are lacking some crucial skills in the domains of flexibility/adaptability, frustration tolerance, and problem solving, and they require a different approach.
