I really have been trying to listen to books that are considered must reads. This book just moved so slowly that it bored me.
I already knew the premise of this book so the ending was no surprise.
The narration like the story wasn't anything special. I think I have been spoiled by narrations that incorporate sound effects. Or maybe its the readings that sound like they actually are enthusiastic about the material past just reading it.
I've listened to several books from this period, they are just not for me. If you like this style of writing then enjoy! I found the story to be really dull with an odd emphasis on details of things that didn't add to the overall story.
This book does further the series but isn't it's best.
The way Harry gets himself out of the final conflict great and unexpected.
He has embodied the characters wonderfully.
Wizard action amazement!
George RR MARTIN does further the story with this installment. Much like his other books some stories are AWESOME! Others are just plain boring.
It was an ending? IT had no impact on me.
The dragons are finally becoming more prominent.
It made me rethink how I spent the last 40 + hours of my life.
It is hard to deal with this series. IT is very very descriptive. . . which is fine... but some of the side stories just are BORING.... I am usually a fan of unabridged not here.... The TV series is doing a better job at trimming the fat then the audio books. Listen if you have time.
Interesting take on zombies...
I really enjoyed the acknowledgement of zombies being in our culture before the invasion.
Probably not. . He doesn't do a bad job, but the east coast accent kills me.
I listened to half the book in one day while painting my deck. . . I was able to put it down easily. There are too many asides in this novel. It is a bit like listening to an episode of "Family Guy". One thing will happen then you'll have two minutes of irrelevant exposition.
I will give this series one more novel before I quit. The zombies are interesting. The writing style isn't great for me...
I am an auditory learner. . . This is my third favorite in the series! It starts add to the "Death Masks" legend.
I never get tierd of Bob the Skull. His changing fancies are always amusing.
A request for a doughnut.
I'm not very emotional.
I've been hooked on this series since a friend recommended it. This is one of my favorites from the series thus far. Each of these stories can be read as stand alone, but are better appreciated when you listen to the series. (I started on book 3 and was fine.) This story has is one where Harry is put against necromancers.... It also has a lot of Bob the Skull (my favorite character.) Definitely worth a listen. . ..
This book is Harry potter meets, 40's detective story, meets evil dead.
Bob the Skull.... James is very convincing as a performer for both men and women... But with Bob he uses his own accent and gets to be completely inappropriate. It always is a laugh.
Towards the end a method of transportation is awesome!
IF you're new to the series, I've been told book 3 is where to start... SO I started there... and may go back to 1 and 2 later on... CHECK IT OUT!
Let's just take alot of the main things you love about Star Wars and delete them. Light Sabers? Gone. Light and Dark sides of the Force? Gone. Jedis? Gone. They take much of what you know and go back in time. Before there was Sith Lords or Jedi Counsel. They replace it with the Ja'dii (sp?). A wish wash of balancing light and dark. Resulting in the equivlent of angsty teenage Ja'dii. You follow the equivlent of a cop on a fairly boring journey. There are some good parts... but over all it barley is a Star Wars novel.
Not set in this time period.
The range of the performer's voice is limited. The characters sounds alike. This is a major step down from Troy Denning's performance in the "Fate of the Jedi" series.
It's an interesting concept going this far back in the mythos but it leads the reader with more questions then answers. In an obvious ploy to further the series.
Game of Thrones is an epic in every sense of the word. This world is so broad and immersive. You can tell that the author really spent a lot of time working out this story before he penned it. BUT this is almost to a fault, these books are so immersive you really do have a hard time trying to keep all the story lines straight. The overall story is worth the time, but if you commit to this series you're looking at around 160+ hours of audio.
The subplot of John Snow is my favorite part of the story.
There is no way you could do this even if you wanted to. At best I could do about 5 hours of it at a time.
I like G.o.T. and now having watched it on TV and hearing the books, I can say this fills in a lot. TheTV show really is great at picking out interesting parts of the story line, but they miss out on much the books fill in. If you enjoy the TV series and have A LOT of time to kill then these will make the universe more immersive. The Narrator does a great job at making voices for each of the characters. There are some story lines that are amazing and interesting. There are other ones that are long drawn out and at point dull. So you can take the good with the bad and decide for yourself.
Get paid to hunt monsters. This books works on pre-established ideas about monsters. They take the idea of hunting monsters being turned into a private enterprise. The author is definitely either very much a fan of both monster mythos and guns or has quite the research team. The descriptions that go into the weaponry is quite impressive. This book follows the Owen Z. Pitt who is thrown into this world and doesn't hate. He is put up against a host of different monsters, and finds a place in his new world.
Franks is the most interesting character. Tragically you don't find out why until book 2.
Harbinger is portrayed very well as a tough no nonsense southerner.
This books has several points in it where you really don't know what will happen. It is well paced and worth a listen for the run time.
If you are like me and really enjoy Harbinger as a character book 3 is a real treat.
