"Excellent Baldacci! Poor Michelle narration!"
I have read all of Baldacci 's books and have enjoyed all of them. I wish that I had chosen to read this book instead of listen to the audio version. I hate to beat a dead horse, but as the other reviews state, the narration is more than horrible for Michelle's character!! Why did Ron not read by himself?? With her narration, you would never know that Michelle and Sean even had a relationship outside of working together. This book is full of interesting characters, lots of scary scenes and is an overall excellent read. Baldacci has never disappointed me and I am still one of his biggest fans.
"Touch & Go--- AND PAUSE and PAUSE!!!!!"
As a big fan of Gardner, I know before starting one of her books I need to take several deep breaths because I am about to get on a roller coaster!! I had to hit pause a few times just to take my mind out of the book and regroup. In Touch & Go, Gardner sets the stage, introduces the characters, places us in a setting, and left the reader and our imagination to figure out the plot. I was exhausted from the beginning when the BAD BAD guys ambushed the family at home, brought them to a far away place with no escape and proceeded to terrorize them.
What seat? I fell off! Gardner kept shooting out clues and family character development to keep us wondering who the story was actually about. Can you say dysfunctional? The father runs a multi-million dollar construction company that was left to him by his father. His wife grew up poor and married well, runs the house and dabbles in jewelry art. The daughter, 15 (only child) is the love of their lives and does no wrong (oops)! The police are as confused as the reader, grasping at any information that will help them find this family, WHO has them, and why? The police start looking into the key members of the company - more development- who did it thoughts. The men in the company are ex seals and the women in the company are loyal to a fault.
She read the book well, although it would have to be a horrible reader to take away from this book. I have listened to her before and she does a good job transferring accents to distinguish characters.
GET READY- GET SET- GO!
I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers!
"Who is the Panther?"
Scott Brick could read anything to me and he got me through this book. I admit that if I had read this book, it would have been hard to finish.
I enjoyed the reintroduction of Paul Brenner from a previous book, The General's Daughter. I did not enjoy the long descriptions of every place they went or details of of character relationships that held no relavence to the plot. I felt lost in character development. Because I have read all of the John Corey books, I knew John and Kate and their ability to work together and their deep feelings and respect for each other. If this had been my first Corey book, I would not know anything about their relationship or much about Kate. The CIA relationship to the Corey's was explained but without enough detail.Who is the Panther? We knew the Lion intimately. In this book, the Panther was a secondary character. This author is one of my very favorites and each one of his books have kept me on the edge of my seat. I have looked forward to this book all year. As I listened, I kept wondering when the story would start. If this is your first DeMille book, please read others.
Everything. He is a master story teller.
Catching a Panther for Dummies.
The book is much too long to get the plot across. I might enjoy the abridged version better.
"A Speedy Read!"
I listened to this book in a day because it just keeps you guessing; did he do it? Listen a little more and think, no he didn't do it - and awhile later - he might be the killer after all - no wait - Is it____? This is my first Brian Freeman book and it will not be my last. The one thing that bothered me was his wrap up at the end. I had to "rewind" a few times to put the sequence of events in order to solve this mystery. I think the author got so excited about his ending plot divulsion, that he ran through it too fast. I did not really understand why a house getting burned had anything to do with a teacher molesting a student? Anyway, I would suggest listening to this book and say "pay close attention to the last quarter of the book!
"A FINANCIAL GENIUS: Harry Markopolos!"
"Shocked" I was when I heard the news of the Bernie Madoff Ponzi Scheme and all of the lives it crumbled to financial ruin. As a retired banker, I have lived my business life by checks and balances, audits, and compliance regulations. How in the heck did this get by soooo many people! Does the SEC have a management training program? Do they have a training department at all? The book does not reflect that there was any intent to defraud by the SEC, however, it does report that the people involved were made aware of the problems with Madoff and his company but did not know what to do with the information. After reading this book you will be sick after learning that this ponzi scheme could have been stopped from the first detection of the incongruous returns Madoff's clients were receiving. I will listen to this book again after reading archived newspaper articles written during this time. I have referred this book to friends. If you are not familiar with broker and financial "jargon" keep your dictionary close! Incredible inside information and a thrill ride of a read!!
"Excellent First Book!"
I enjoy reading authors first books. They are either a hit or a miss. This book is a hit. Unlike other legal thrillers, (John Grisham ...), this story is believable. No thugs chasing the good guys, bugging their homes, and killing innocent people. The characters are your next door neighbors. The crimes(unfortunately), are everyday and easy to understand. The narrator is pleasant to listen to. I completed the book in two days because I needed to know where the story was heading. The twists in the book come from the intellect of the characters. I am eager to read his next book!
"A Little Disappointed"
I have reviewed this author's previous books and rated them a BIG 5 star! I even said that he was one of my new favorite authors. Don't get me wrong; I think Robert Ellis is an incredible new author and will continue to buy his books. I enjoy the Lena Gamble series. His characters are likeable and are real. The stories are believable and complex. I waited all of last year for this book and built so much hype over it that when it did not top the previous Lena Gamble books I was a little disappointed. The book started out saying "Murder Season" way too much making it sound almost "hokey". What I would like to say is if this is your first Robert Ellis book, please read at least one of the first two books in the series. Each book is a stand alone book with its own story so no need to read these in order. This book is my least favorite of the three.
"Wanting more..."
After reviewing the information about this book, I was intrigued, and decided to purchase. One reviewer called it a "romantic suspense". I love romantic suspense and this book is not in that category. The write up led me to believe that it was a suspenseful read, but it really was not that either. The narrator was very good and the story kept you listening because the characters were likeable. I really liked the independent, head on straight, main character. I would read more of her stories. Overall, I was not disappointed with my purchase, but it did not meet my expectations
"WOW! Scott Brick Nailed this one!"
I was listening to the narrators talk about the best books they had narrated. Scott talked about the best mystery and about how the end just really threw him for a loop. It was this book and I could not wait to listen to it. Scott Brick is one of my favorite narrators, and I trust anything he recommends. This book will not be a waste of a credit and I bet you will be as surprised as I was at how the author wrapped this one up! I will read more of this authors books.
"Can't wait for the second book in this series!!"
I have enjoyed some of the author's other books. When I saw that this was the first in a series, I bought it. I thoroughly enjoyed the book! I really like books in a series with the same characters and character development. The story had twist and turns and kept me listening so that I had to finish it in a day and a half! I think Andrea Kane introduced us to all of the characters, the roles they play, as well as to leave us anticipating future cases. The narrator did a good job with character changes and made it an easy listen. I can not wait for the second book!!
