Recently, the world has been shaken by gruesome photos and videos that have introduced us to the now infamous terrorist group known as ISIS. The world’s wealthiest and most powerful jihadists, ISIS originated within Al Qaeda with the goal of creating an Islamic state across Iraq and Syria and unrelenting jihad on Christians. Separate from ISIS, the terrorist group Hamas has waged an equally brutal war against Israel. Both groups, if left undefeated, have the potential to unleash a catastrophic genocide.

This book should have been titled, "The Threat of Hamas on Israel." I've never been so disappointed in an audio book!

Not long ago, Christine Carter, a happiness expert at UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center and a speaker, writer, and mother, found herself exasperated by the busyness of modern life: too many conflicting obligations and not enough time, energy, or patience to get everything done. She tried all the standard techniques - prioritizing, multitasking, delegating, even napping - but none really worked.

The author uses her own life's experiences and research while boiling down much of what is explained in other books by Carol Dweck, Csikszentmihalyi, and Viktor Frankl, into an easy to follow way of changing your outlook and improving you life. Great book!

  • My Early Life

    Story

One of the classic volumes of autobiography, My Early Life is a lively and colourful account of a young man's quest for action, adventure and danger. Churchill's schooldays are undistinguished, but he is admitted to Sandhurst and embarks on a career as a soldier and a war correspondent, seeing action in Cuba, in India, in the Sudan - where he took part in the battle of Omdurman, of which he gives us a stirring account - and finally in South Africa.

Janet H. Maddox says: "What an amazing life!"
"Great story about Churchill's early years."

What made the experience of listening to My Early Life the most enjoyable?

Interesting to hear about his childhood years and his struggles.

Overall a good listen. I seem to have a problem staying focused on narrators with a British accent, but it wouldn't seem right otherwise.

"Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants." These simple words go to the heart of Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food. Humans used to know how to eat well, Pollan argues. But the balanced dietary lessons that were once passed down through generations have been confused, complicated, and distorted by food industry marketers, nutritional scientists, and journalists-all of whom have much to gain from our dietary confusion.

It's amazing to me how much food is processed these days! Great information provided in a captivating format. You might think a book on nutrition could be boring, but not in this case. Scott Brick does a fabulous job emitting the emotions of the author.
