Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to a friend. If you heard all the news covering Ms. Burnett and her daughter, Carrie, over the years. This book will definitely clear up what you've heard or read. I started and stopped reading a couple of times because I was concerned it would be a tell and cry sort of read. I finally buckled down and read it. It's not! It is more about a relationship, love and respect than a sad memorial. Don't get me wrong. Yes, it touches on Carrie's illness and her passing, but this book isn't about that. It's about her life, her legacy. It's warm and heartfelt. I cried and I laughed because I related.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Carrie, of course, because she was real, unspoiled by her parent's success, and a hard working young women that wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted. She struggled in her youth, but got it together as an adult.

What about Carol Burnett’s performance did you like?

I think Ms. Burnett tried hard to read this book like she would any other book, but you could definitely hear when her heart was breaking. You feel for her if you've suffered your own loss

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and I tried. Not possible thou, because I have other responsibilities.

Anyone Who Had a Heart is the story of a man who has always expressed his deepest feelings through his music. Filled with the emotional power that defines Burt Bacharach's most unforgettable songs, his memoir offers a candid backstage look at show business as well as the personal struggles of an artist whose incredible body of work has earned him a unique position in the American cultural landscape.

I had such a different idea of who this man was that I was sorry I read this. Other than his talent for music, he has very few redeeming qualities and it was hard to read this. He was referred to as narcissistic, but that is a compliment. I would add shallow, and much more.

I thought it was going to be a loving book about his daughter, but it's just a book about his lack of character..

For most of her life, Crystal McVea was a skeptic whose history of abuse and bad choices made her feel beyond the reach of God - who questioned if God was even real. She had all but given up hope. Then came December 10, 2009...and the moment that changed everything. Crystal doesn't remember the trauma or losing consciousness; she just remembers waking up in heaven, next to God....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book to someone that believed in this subject. I do, that's why I read it, but I know many people that wouldn't.

What other book might you compare Waking Up in Heaven to and why?

I don't think I want to draw a comparison with any other book. This is similar to several books I've read, but doesn't compare.

What does Crystal McVea bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Crystal McVea reading her book makes the story sound truthful. You know she believes every word she says.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I had to remember to get back to finish this book. I wanted to finish it so I could get on to another book.

In this luminous memoir, Rita Moreno shares her remarkable journey from a young girl with simple beginnings in Puerto Rico to Hollywood legend - and one of the few performers, and the only Hispanic, to win an Oscar, Grammy, Tony, and two Emmys. Born Rosita Dolores Alverio in the idyll of Puerto Rico, Moreno, at age five, embarked on a harrowing sea voyage with her mother and wound up in the harsh barrios of the Bronx, where she discovered dancing, singing, and acting as ways to escape a tumultuous childhood.

Would you listen to Rita Moreno again? Why?

Yes, I would listen to Rita Moreno again, because I felt her heart in every word. She owed her story. It was the truth!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Rita Moreno?

For me, the most memorable part of this book was the end when she spent the final days with her husband. I lost my husband of 48 years and I identified with that part of the story. I felt her pain and sorrow.

Have you listened to any of Rita Moreno’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've followed Rita from back in the 60's. I watched her appearances on film and television when ever I had the chance. A lot of which she talked about in this book. I liked her honesty! She revealed so much about herself that it changed a lot of ideas I've held about her and her celebrity.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This was a book I would listen to in three sittings.

    Any additional comments?

I want to say that this book reminded me of so many of the performances I saw over the years. A lot of it sent me searching them, as I read about them, on the internet. I watched the video's on YouTube. I really had to laugh my guts out watching Googie!

    Story

I was recently told I was pre-diabetic. I was given a piece of paper with a list of foods I couldn't have. I was concerned and upset because I had no idea what all this meant, except that my health was at risk. I went all over the web looking for information. Each site had their lists of foods I could eat, but all were different. There was little explanation for or reasons why I couldn't eat certain foods and it felt like I'd never figure it out.

This book told me, in a way I could understand, why I could or couldn't have these foods. It explained all my questions and gave me answers that I wasn't able to find in simple terms.
It all boiled down to carbs. From there I've been able to put into action what I needed to know. Nothing is written in stone.. Thank you Sherri Shepherd, the weight has just started rolling off me, my sugar is back to normal, (I had it checked this last week) and I haven't felt deprived. The fear is gone!!

I suggest if you have been diagnosed or are just trying to get your health back, read this book. I've been able to make food changes that have been easy and enjoyable. I'm not struggling and I've lost almost 40 lbs. in the last five months without even trying.

I'm not very good at reviewing books, I just know what I like and what interests me. If your a Penny Marshall fan, you'll probably love this book, because what you see in her is what you get in this book. She takes you from her young childhood to her life in the present and it's like her LaVerne character all over again, I had to chuckle at her honesty and how "normal" or "real" she really is in her reaction to things in her life. She just is who she is, take her or leave her, and she makes no apologies.

In her phenomenal New York Times best seller The Other Side and Back, acclaimed psychic Sylvia Browne introduced millions of people to a world beyond our own, where they saw for the first time that death was not the end but just another phase in our eternal journey.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I think the title is misleading to start. There's not so much about thre other side. Spent most of the time reading more about Sylvia's experience than anything you'd expect to read.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I'd have given more information about the other side.

What three words best describe Sylvia Browne’s performance?

Most of what was in this book has been covered in her other books. Just a repeat of information, not much new.

Could you see Life on the Other Side being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    No!

    Any additional comments?

I've quite a collection of Sylvia Browne books and I keep buying looking for something new, but it's not there. I think it's a lesson learned, finally.

The definitive memoir by legendary actress and performer Debbie Reynolds - an entertaining and moving story of enduring friendships and unbreakable family bonds, of hitting bottom and rising to the top again - that offers a unique and deeply personal perspective on Hollywood and its elite, from the glory days of MGM to the present.

    Story
Where does Unsinkable rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the first audio book I've actually read through completely, so this question would be hard to answer for me. From what I have heard listening to others, while checking to see what would interest me, is the reading by Ms. Reynolds was my only complaint. It was a little distracting. I know it was her story and her right to read it, but she didn't read it like it was.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Unsinkable?

I was really taken back by how badly she was treated by the men in her life. It really makes you understand how hard it is for someone who makes a lot of money to find someone honest and caring. It makes it clear why someone like Debbie can't find personal happiness. If you marry someone successful in the same business there's competition with egos. If you marry outside it's hard to find someone who isn't a shyster.

Have you listened to any of Debbie Reynolds’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I read her first book, but most of it was already things I've already known from following her career over the last 60 years and the news This book got down to the nitty gritty and filled in areas that weren't covered before. I was enlightened about many questions I had been curious about.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I think I was surprised at how much she was taken advantage of. I'd heard from her interviews and first book about Eddie Fisher and Harry Karl, but her last husband was new information, for sure. That marriage wasn't news. I knew she remarried a third husband, but most things about that marriage wasn't known. I don't know how she managed to survive so much. You would think there would be a law to protect people from fraudulence like this. They have stupid laws for everything else. This man should be in prison.

    Any additional comments?

The only other thing that I would add that's worth mentioning, I guess, is to thank Ms. Reynolds for clearing up all the bad information that is out there, and for so many years of good entertainment. I had the pleasure of seeing one of her shows, back in the 80's at Harrah's in Reno. I became aware of her when I was about 11 watching "Tammy" No matter how old she will get, she will always be a beautiful Debbie. She never changes!
