  • A Beautiful Friendship: Star Kingdom, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By David Weber
    • Narrated By Khristine Hvam

Stephanie Harrington had always expected to be a forest ranger on her homeworld of Meyerdahl until her parents relocated to the frontier planet of Sphinx in the far distant Star Kingdom of Manticore. It should have been the perfect new home - a virgin wilderness full of new species of every sort, just waiting to be discovered. But Sphinx is a far more dangerous place than ultra-civilized Meyerdahl, and Stephanie's explorations come to a sudden halt when her parents lay down the law: no trips into the bush without adult supervision!

"Reallt bad kids book - avoid if your over 12"

This book was really bad! The childish meandering dialog and performance combine to make this one of the most painful listens in recent memory. Both my kids (8, and 12) begged me to turn it off on a recent 2 hour road trip. I suffered through the entire listen expecting it to get better - it does not. Avoid!

  • The Gate Thief: Mithermages, Book 2

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs)
    • By Orson Scott Card
    • Narrated By Stefan Rudnicki, Emily Rankin
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Here on Earth, Danny North is still in high school, yet he holds in his heart and mind all the stolen outselves of 13 centuries of gatemages. The Families still want to kill him if they can’t control him - and they can’t control him; he is far too powerful. On Westil, Wad is now nearly powerless - he lost everything to Danny in their struggle. Even if he can survive the revenge of his enemies, he must still somehow make peace with the Gatemage Daniel North, for when Danny took that power from Loki, he also took responsibility for the Great Gates.

Benjamin says: "Flashes of Great, Ok, and Bad. Overall: Meh."
    "Very disapointing"

The first book in this series was ok and I hesitated buying the second. I guess I blame my poor review on the excellent book by Peter Hamilton that I listened too prior to this this adolescent garbage. Adolescent is a perfect description of the character development and story. I had to stop a couple of hours into the book because it was so annoyingly awful. My largest complaint is the pointless completely unrealistic dialog between the teenagers. It was NEVER ending with 30 minutes of moronic back and forth between characters that had absolutely no point in the story. I want the 2 hours of my life back that I wasted on this book. AVOID!

  • A Discovery of Witches

    • UNABRIDGED (24 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Deborah Harkness
    • Narrated By Jennifer Ikeda
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

    Tim says: "True Blood PG13"
    "WARNING! Avoid this book!"

WARNING! If you have testosterone in your blood this book will make you vomit… repeatedly. Any female that rated this book above a 1 should be ashamed of themselves. The author’s depiction of its female characters was an insult to every woman on the planet. The story (and that’s an over statement) ends abruptly without any closure on key plot elements. The “story” is just an excuse for an over the top romance that I pray is not a representation of the genre.

Matthew says: "Great Book, The Narrator Was Alright"
"Great book - story, narration, all good"

I read the reviews about the narrator and I was hesitant to purchase this book. However I’m glad I did because we all thought he was good, in fact very good. This is the first book from this author I’ve listened too and I found the story and the narration very enjoyable. Highly recommended Sunday drive listen.
