The four fires in this story are passion, religion, warfare, and fire itself. While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

Had to keep listening because the story is really good, but probably won't listen to any more by this author because the language ruined the listening experience. Great performance by the reader.

In an innovative new approach, Macmillan Audio and Steve Berry have produced an expanded, annotated writer’s cut audiobook edition of The Patriot Threat. The 16th Amendment to the Constitution legalized federal income tax, but what if there were problems with the 1913 ratification of that amendment? Secrets that call in to question decades of tax collecting. There is a surprising truth to this possibility—a truth wholly entertained by Steve Berry, a top-ten New York Times best-selling writer, in his new thriller, The Patriot Threat.

I loved Steve Berry's comments at the end of the chapter. He made the story so much more interesting. Love the story and the thought provoking details. Steve has a great way of helping his readers see hidden things that may be reality. The best part of the new format is that I can listen with the comments the first time and without the comments on the 3 or 4 times I re-listen to the book - something I always do with Steve Berry's books. I'm always impatiently waiting for his next book so I have to make do with re-listening his other books in my library.

The Patriot Threat is one of Berry's best books yet. I wanted to make Cotton Malone an apple pie because I felt so sad for his loss of Cassiopia. I wanted to fly to DC and give those elected officials a piece of my mind concerning Income Tax.

What she once put her entire family in jeopardy and now, years later, her cover is blown. She’s on the run, and the lives of those she holds dear hang in the balance. As only Iris Johansen can do, you won’t see the twists coming.

Ali Reynolds's longtime friend and Taser-carrying nun, Sister Anselm, rushes to the bedside of a young pregnant woman hospitalized for severe injuries after she was hit by a car on a deserted Arizona highway. The girl had been running away from The Family, a polygamous cult with no patience for those who try to leave its ranks. Something about her strikes a chord in Sister Anselm, reminding her of a case she worked years before, when another young girl wasn't so lucky.

Mick must piece together why their house is full of cameras pointed at holes in the walls and how a nighttime intruder bypassed all the locks. Meanwhile, the town of Broken Harbor holds something else for Mick: disturbing memories of a childhood summer gone terribly wrong.

The story dragged on and on with too much touchy-feely stuff and way too much trashy language. Good story board and French kept me guessing all the way through but had to fast forward all the tedious parts and still was able to keep the line of the story going.

Baffin Island: Husband-and-wife team Sami and Remi Fargo are on a climate-control expedition in the Arctic, when to their astonishment they discover a Viking ship in the ice, perfectly preserved - and filled with pre-Columbian artifacts from Mexico. How can that be? As they plunge into their research, tantalizing clues about a link between the Vikings and the legendary Toltec feathered serpent god Quetzalcoatl - and a fabled object known as the Eye of Heaven - begin to emerge. But so do many dangerous people.

This wasn't the same Fargo adventure. I didn't care for the new pissy, spoiled Remmy and the college boy Sam. Good story but just didn't meet the Clive Cussler mark. The world is really going to miss Clive. I think Russell Blake has potential to do some good stuff on his own - hope he starts his own series.

Great book and of course you can't beat Scott Brick for suspense novels. It would have been really enjoyable to listen to if it didn't have constant f----- words. That language wasn't even necessary to make the story good! If Clive Cussler and Steve Berry can write an exciting novel without trashy language and be such great authors, why can't others? Is there people who refuse to listen to a book unless it has a lot of bad words? I don't plan on listening to any more Tom Clancy (even if he is a well known author) because it isn't worth being subjected to the trash that goes with it.

Now a major motion picture directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen, High Fidelity) and starring Judi Dench (Skyfall, Notes on a Scandal) and Steve Coogan (The Trip, Hamlet 2): the heartbreaking true story of an Irishwoman and the secret she kept for 50 years. When she became pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena Lee was sent to a convent to be looked after as a "fallen woman". Then the nuns took her baby from her and sold him, like thousands of others, to America for adoption. Fifty years later, Philomena decided to find him.

I feel like the description was very misleading. Yes. It is a very sad real life story, but I thought it would be more about the search for mother and son. The majority of the story is about details completely unrelated to the description.
