The missing link to long-term Lean success! Despite the fact that companies worldwide have adopted Lean production, none has sustained the same levels of excellence as Toyota. Why? Leadership. In The Toyota Way to Lean Leadership, Jeffrey Liker and Gary L. Convis, a former executive V.P. and managing officer of Toyota, help executives and senior managers get employees to refocus their efforts - from simply performing their singular function to continuously improving in collaboration across the organization.

I thought there were some good points, but the story as a whole dragged on a little more than other books I have been listening to. It wasn't horrible, but I feel there are plenty others that would have caught my interest more.

In 1998, three Harvard Business School graduates - two men and one woman - turned down six-figure salaries at big corporations, bet on themselves, and launched their own new companies. By their 10-year reunion, their audacity had paid huge dividends. They'd made many millions of dollars, created hundreds of jobs and left their mark on the world. The Intelligent Entrepreneur tells the compelling and instructive story of how these three young founders did it.

  • Basic Economics, Fourth Edition: A Common Sense Guide to the Economy

The fourth edition of Basic Economics is both expanded and updated. A new chapter on the history of economics itself has been added, and the implications of that history examined. Among other additions throughout the book, a new section on the special role of corporations in the economy has been added to the chapter on government and big business.

If you could sum up Basic Economics, Fourth Edition in three words, what would they be?

    thorough, basic, thoughtful

Would you be willing to try another book from Thomas Sowell? Why or why not?

Yes, he did a great job of reading the text. Never once detracted from the content.

    Any additional comments?

Because of the content being presented, it did not always keep my attention, but that is more the fault of the topic I chose to learn more about, not the content itself. For someone who knows very little about economics, I thought it was a great introduction and would recommend it to anyone looking for basics.

I really enjoyed this book. I have always liked Apple as a company and thought Steve Jobs was a great innovator. After the book I am overwhelmingly impressed by Jobs and am inspired by his innovation and work ethics. It has already impacted the way I do my business and develop my products.

Written before Alexander the Great was born, this Chinese treatise on war has become one of the most influential works on the subject. Read widely in the east since its appearance 2,500 years ago, The Art of War first came to the west with a French Jesuit in 1782. It has been studied by generals from Napoleon to Rommel, and it is still required reading in most military academies of the world.

I listened to this book because I have seen it listed among good business books to read. I was expecting more business correlations. It was very different than I expected, though I was surprisingly pleased with it. A very interesting collection of war tactics...I can see why he did so well in war!
