This book had everything. Suspense, originality, And a Dr Who kind of kookiness.
Not sure. It was suggested to me after liking the Hunger Games but there is more humour and supernatural elements. I told my husband it was like a dr who episode told by the shopoholic.
Honestly, the first chapter was so well written I've gone back to listen to it again. But all the scenes have such a sense of place and suspense, I have no idea how he kept it up throughout the book.
When we find out how the herine lost her memory. I thought it was going to be just a simple reveal but it was quite heartbreaking.
Enjoy. I will definitely listen to this a second time. The only downside is I'll be waiting two years for the next installments.
Only to see how times have changed. This is in the paranoid first days of AIDS. And virtually no technology.
Unfortunately, I never really care about finding the killer. Curious, yes. But the ending was not satisfying.
I have heard this narrator many times before. Her cadence is the similar to all the other stories [yawn]. The good thing is her character voices are well varied so it's an easy listen.
Sure...but it will be a while before I bother down loading the next in the series.
Yes, it was very well written and narrated. It would be perfect for that long drive with parents or teenagers.
Both women were wonderful. And it's the blend of the two that makes the story great.
I don't think I could have imagined the accents on my own. The cadence brings so much personality to the story.
Friends in War
There's history to be learned, the reality of war, friendship, enemies, hardship and bravery under fire.
It is one of my favourites. I have recommended it to all my female friends.
I normally do not like separate readers but I really enjoyed the two voices telling the story from two separate point-of-views.
Many...but I do not want to give anything away. Be warned that you will be hungry while reading this book with all the cooking scenes. Luckily the recipes can be found on the author's web-site.
I really did not know much about the motivations and problems of "cutting" before reading this novel.
The narration fits the writing style perfectly. The way modern issues are interpreted through an older set of scientific principles. I saw much of the set-up a head of time but it was still suspenseful to see how the facts would play out in this older period.
The variety of voice, perfectly enunciated, especially of the protagonist. I will look for other books read by this actor.
Way too long for one sitting, but I found myself listening to it at all hours cramming into each day as much as I could.
For a story about witchcraft, this is told from the point-of-view of the men with power. The women get very little play except as cliches; damsel in distress, the jealous house wife, the silent waif etc. I wished they had had as much dimensions as the males.
The setting of the mystery in a moon colony is just not for show. It adds to the trouble and the suspense. Very clever.
The key to a good mystery is having a villian who is a match for the investigator. I didn't have that satisfaction here. Between the smart ex-cop, loyal chief cop, and sexy new cop from the city, there was never any doubt that all would be well.
This is not a happy book. It's a war story. The ending is very realistic and ultimately very satisfying. Made me say a prayer for all the families in the war zones. I hope they will also have the chance for peace.
This is only half the remaining story. It need the final installment to finish the story arc. I listened to all three books one after the other and the constant angst Katniss has over Gayle and Pieta begins to grate.
Well written, well told. It's an excellent read and worth continuing to the rest of the series.
The consequences young people are forced to deal with when parents abandon them...you are so rooting for the daughter. The vocabulary and customs of the region is quite fascinating.
