As the author of many classic works on science and philosophy, Richard Dawkins has always asserted the irrationality of belief in God and the grievous harm it has inflicted on society. He now focuses his fierce intellect exclusively on this subject, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

If you could sum up The God Delusion in three words, what would they be?

    Science lights the Dark

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I like the last chapter on how special life is and why you don't need any super natural being to explain why it is. Trillions of beings could have been here instead of you, yet you are here. With those odds who needs the lottery.

    Any additional comments?

Dawkin's does not shy away from stating facts that others would shy away from. His arguement, as usual, is well thought out and convincing. He lays out the make believe of religon. To see the world through his world is far more beautiful than one described by the religous.

  • Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany

This is the dramatic story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. With the narrative power of fiction, this is a harrowing ride through the fire-filled skies over Berlin, Hanover, and Dresden. Fighting at twenty-five thousand feet in thin, freezing air no warriors had encountered before, bomber crews battled new kinds of assaults on body and mind. Air combat was deadly but intermittent: periods of inactivity and anxiety were followed by short bursts of fire and fear.

What did you love best about Masters of the Air?

You hear the voices of the "bomber boys" and those on the receiving end of the raids

What was one of the most memorable moments of Masters of the Air?

The witness accounts of fire storms. Very chilling.

    Which scene was your favorite?

This book has accounts of the heroism of ordinary people

    Any additional comments?

As the years pass, WW2 has receded in to folklore. It has become almost unreal. This book reminds us of what the golden generation gave up for us and what we owe them

Privately training with a seasoned Special Forces drill instructor, he’s honing his skills to transition his work within The Campus from intelligence analysis to hunting down and eliminating terrorists wherever he can—even as Jack Ryan Sr. campaigns for re-election as President of the United States. But what neither father nor son knows is that the political and the personal have just become equally dangerous.

What made the experience of listening to Locked On the most enjoyable?

Lou Dimond Phillips as the Narrator, one of the tough guys narrating a story about tought guy's, who better could you get? If you love action than this is your book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I have always loved Clancy. As always it is a story with many threads woven in such away that you cannot see how things connect until the end. The only draw back was that the technology described by Clancy has always been existant but miniture spy robots on insect legs was a little CSI for me.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Lou Dimond Phillips speaks with a good pace, conveys the characters very well and has a very easy voice to listen to.

  • Charlemagne

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 37 mins)
    • By Richard Winston
    • Narrated By Charlton Griffin
    Overall

    (333)
    Story

Charlemagne was easily one of the most fascinating figures in Western civilization, as well as the most heroic and romantic. The 47 years of his reign marked some of the most significant and far reaching events of the Middle Ages. Undoubtedly, it was his enlightened vision for Europe that resulted in the Carolingian Renaissance, a period of cultural flowering that never really ceased to develop, and which led in a straight line directly to that period of astonishing achievement we now call the High Gothic.

What made the experience of listening to Charlemagne the most enjoyable?

The production is top notch, for example when the Narrator Charlton Griffin reads from a letter/book etc they add an audio effect that makes it stand out

Who was your favorite character and why?

As this is a history there are no real characters in the Novel sense. I had always wondered why through out history you hear abour Charlemagne and why everyone claimed to be like him. This audio book explains why and is very captivating in how it goes about it.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The Epilogue as it places Charlemagne in history and explains why we see him the way that we do

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes very much so. Some audio books are just a jumble of words with a boring narrator. I highly recommend this to those who enjoy history

What made the experience of listening to Obama's Wars the most enjoyable?

It's always intresting to peal back the layers and see the truth underneath. Woodward again has produced a very good work.

Who was your favorite character and why?

General Patreus very much reminded me of General McCarther with all the grand standing. A man more interested in his public image than anything else

What about Boyd Gaines’s performance did you like?

The narrator gives a good sense of the people involved.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

How the US Military works against the President in its own interest

Hesse's masterpiece, set in the distant past of the Middle East, tells the story of a young Brahmin's son, Siddhartha, who leaves his father's house in search of his own life. With his boyhood friend, Govinda, he lives as an ascetic until he encounters the Illustrious One, the Buddha. He does not stay, but continues on his journey. He becomes rich, but then leaves it all to return to the path he had almost abandoned, that of seeking enlightenment.
