From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions.

Where does American Sniper rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

    Definitely in the top 5

What did you like best about this story?

    I loved all of it.

What about John Pruden’s performance did you like?

If I were to ever meet Chris Kyle, I would expect him to sound like John Pruden. His accent and comfort level in telling Chris's story, especially in "first person narrative" was excellent!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both at times, but Chris' style isn't about making you feel sorry for anyone, least of all himself.

    Any additional comments?

Phenomenal book! Chris Kyle is a true hero in every way. I love his attitude, in the book and especially when I looked back and found an earlier interview he did when the book was first released. No matter how the reporter tried to lead him with questions that suggested he was "cold blooded"...a killer, etc. Chris maintained a calm yet direct persona.

You need to listen to this book for the total experience. It's as though Chris himself were telling a group of people his story.

Dead is dead. Missing is gone. When Felix Brewer meets nineteen-year-old Bernadette "Bambi" Gottschalk at a Valentine's Day dance in 1959, he charms her with wild promises, some of which he actually keeps. Thanks to his lucrative - if not all legal - businesses, she and their three little girls live in luxury. But on the Fourth of July in 1976, Bambi's comfortable world implodes when Felix, facing prison, vanishes. Though Bambi has no idea where her husband - or his money - might be, she suspects one woman does: his devoted young mistress, Julie.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

    Yes, absolutely!

What other book might you compare After I'm Gone to and why?

The best of Laura Lippman's books.

Which character – as performed by Linda Emond – was your favorite?

I think probably Sandy, although Linda Emond's narration is perfect for all the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, although I did have to spread it out over several days!

    Any additional comments?

If you enjoy the Tess Monaghan series based in Baltimore and have been missing her style of PI work, then you need to read/listen to "After I'm Gone". It's excellent!
