The Mill on the Floss, first published in 1860, tells the story of Maggie Tulliver and her brother Tom as they grow from children to young adults in the small rural town of St. Ogg's, England. Intelligent and passionate, Maggie yearns to develop her mind and break free of the constraints of her provincial village. Though she loves her brother above anyone else, Tom's rigid, pragmatic personality often conflicts with Maggie's headstrong nature, with increasingly tragic consequences.

I could not understand one word the narrator said! I stopped listening after the 1st 10 minutes. I did try 2 different times because I thought it may have been my state of mind the 1st time, but it was just as bad the 2nd time. The Cockney english accent was just too difficult to understand, and frankly I just didn't think it was worth it. Can I have my money back?

Dave Robicheaux felt the bone-grinding pain rip through his body as the .45 did its damage. Through the agonizing haze that enveloped him, he heard an almost inhuman laugh - the hideous, victorious cackling of Jimmie Lee Boggs - a sound he would never forget. It had started out as an ordinary prisoner transfer, then turned into a blood bath when the convicted murderer got hold of a gun.

Ed says: "Burke is an outstanding novelist"

As usual James Burke delivers a fantastic story woven throughout Louisiana. There is mystery drugs cops and plenty of picturesque bayou storyline.

Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life - having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Through Balram's eyes, we see India as we've never seen it before: the cockroaches and the call centers, the prostitutes and the worshippers, the water buffalo and, trapped in so many kinds of cages that escape is (almost) impossible, the white tiger.

With a charisma as undeniable as it is unexpected, Balram teaches us that religion doesn't create morality and money doesn't solve every problem.

Oh my gosh! do you want to know something about the people and country of India? this is the book for you. I loved the main character, and I loved how he dealt with all of his problems and situations. I particularly enjoyed the ending. If you are a follower, and read my reviews I like to tell about the endings. If I don't like the ending I will give a story many less stars, because I find that after spending many hours listening to a story, it can all be ruined by the ending. With this one you will not be disappointed!

Valentino's travels, truly Biblical in scope, bring him in contact with government soldiers, janjaweed-like militias, liberation rebels, hyenas and lions, disease and starvation, and a string of unexpected romances. Ultimately, Valentino finds safety in Kenya and, just after the millennium, is finally resettled in the United States, from where this novel is narrated.
