I was expecting more based on the reviews of this book. It kept me listening but....well it was just OK. Kate does good narrating for the most part but for some of the characters (i.e. Bing) she became very loud and annoying. I was listening on the speakers and family members heard and asked what horrible thing was i listening to. I guess the characters were supposed to be annoying but the only way I could get through the book was to keep turning the volume down during much of the book. I did not care for the ending of the book.
I purchased the 1st book in the series ( My Life as A White Trash Zombie) to take a break from the longer epic books I usually read. I immediately purchased this one after I finished it. It was fun and light as I expected but surprisingly Angel was a charming character that hooks her way into your heart. I liked the authors take on zombies and her concept of brains use (i.e. brain smoothies) and the zombie mafia. The narrator gives an excellent performance being animated without being over-bearing.
This book is more of a life story rather than an adventure. We follow Ursala through her lives and see the way she tries to change things for the better ( with only intuitive feelings of her past lives). Each life gets a little longer and she retains more of her past memories with them towards the end.
I really enjoyed the story all though it is not action packed. My only problem with the story is that is was often confusing as it jumped from life to life, I had to pay very close attention or re-listen often to figure out what was going on. It may be less confusing in written form. I was also left wondering at some of the changes in her lives that she did not cause such as the adoption of a certain baby, did someone else in her family also repeat lives and change things or was it just a random happening. The ending of the book left me a little disappointed as I am not sure what was done to keep someone alive and also the very last sentences of the book were about a person who only had a few words mentioned about them prior and I never really understood their part in the story at all. It may be that I missed something that I would have understood if I read the book. I think the narrator gave a good performance. Over all I would rate my enjoyment of the book a 4 to 5 star but my satisfaction at a 3.
I enjoyed having different narrators for the main characters view points
When Pressia "cures" Bradwell in the final chapters of the book. I cannot wait for the next book to find out the effects of the cure.
I would identify with Pressia the most, although El Capitans character grows well in this book
The fusion of beings is quite gruesome, especially " the Mothers"
The only part of the book I did not like was the singing, I suppose it would be fine written but singing in an audio book makes me cringe. Thankfully it tapers off as the book continues.
I have no preference, but the narrator did such an excellent job the audio version may be preferable
I cant think of another to compare
I love her voice and accent, the narration was animated but not overbearing
yes especially towards the end
The book was full of suspense and entertaining but also very depressing. It brings to light how lonely and hopeless people can be and how overlooked by a society of busy, multitasking and indifferent people we have become. Do you know your neighbors?
My overall feeling after the book is sadness.
One of my favorite fantasy series full of action, excellent character development and the (magic?) stimulates the imagination.
Inevera is the character I have most despised but with this book you gain understanding of her perspective and as much as her actions anger me I also feel empathy for her. The author has done a great job at making the villains human.
The book is a literal cliff-hanger you will understand what I mean when you hear the words "the end " It is going to be torture waiting for the next book!
The suspense of the last half of the book. The parallels of the political and social structure with ours. People say they are doing things, making rules for the greater good but it is really about maintaining power. The struggles of the people who question their beliefs because they understand the rules in one sense and yet when it personally effects them they feel violated, for example the law of every woman 18 or over ( then 16) being required to be pregnant until they are past childbearing age
Samm, his struggles with his programmed responses over his individual ideas and beliefs
I always love an animated narrator, as even a good book can be dull with a monotone reader
The first half I took breaks, the second half I had to listen to until way past bedtime to finish
Happy that the second book is coming soon!
1. Was stated to be 22 hours, was only 11
2. listened for a short time, not impressed with main character being homosexual, if I had known I would not of purchased the book. Srry mean no offense but as a heterosexual female I am just not interested in reading how a man falls in love with a man. I just cannot relate to the characters.
3. Audible will not let me automatically return the book, so much for satisfaction guarantee
4. The narrator sounded like he was doing a good job. I would listen to him reading a book in my interest category
I had bought this book on sale, did not seem my type of book but WOW it was great. It has humour, action, mystery and just a hint of romance. What I enjoyed most was the veiwpoint of being a machine which the narrator was able to bring voice to so well. I really hope that there will be more books they would be an auto buy for me.
Among my favorites, Jim Butcher`s books are a no question purchase.
I think Dresden stands alone, any other similar books would be weak comparisons.
I loved the whole book, but I think the scene that made me smile the most was when Major General Toot Toot and his troops first show up.
As everyone has mentioned very happy to have James Marsters back. His acting skill makes his narration shine!
