The audio version of this story was extremely hard for me to follow and "get into." I think it would have helped if I'd been able to read the beginning, and then listen from there. The performance was very good, though.
First, the story itself was a disappointment; it was very lightweight and not only lacked any depth, but I didn't relate to the characters at all either.
Second, the writer kept using the same phrases over and over again- for example, the heroine felt "completely slayed" FAR too often. (And while I appreciated the use of the word once...mainly because I never thought of it as a word before...and apparently neither does anyone else since this program keeps trying to auto-correct it...one time was enough.)
Third -- and this may be because of the girl reading the story -- she sounded far too whiney and weak ALL THE TIME. Seriously, she's a downer. (I soon wanted to punch her as much as she wanted to punch everyone else who she felt wronged her...another frustrating aspect of the story.) The reader wasn't bad--actually she's really good--but she needs to lose the consistently whiney and plain tones. (Sorry but I couldn't think of a better word.)
All in all, I was not as enamored with this story as the other readers apparently were.
Far from it, actually.
