Napoleon has been defeated at Waterloo, but the ensuing peace becomes ugly for Captain Jack Aubrey, with violent celebrations of the English sailors in Gibraltar and the desertion of nearly half his crew. To cap it all off, the Surprise is nearly sunk in a shattering night collision on the first leg of her journey to South America, where Jack and Stephen are to help Chile assert her independence from Spain.

Where does Blue at the Mizzen rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've read and listened to a lot of historical fiction. Patrick O'Brian is the best. Nigel Tranter is also in my top 5 historical fiction authors. Simon Vance is a good narrator, the one I prefer, but he should have used a more Irish accent for Stephen M, and Simon Vance's portrayal of Stephen is a bit effeminate.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blue at the Mizzen?

Cutting out the Peruvian frigate Esmeralda.

Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favorite?

    Captain Aubrey

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The loyal to Captain Aubrey during the cutting out the Peruvian frigate Esmeralda.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The narrating is great and the NKJV translation is very good.

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

There are many narrators. They all do well.

    Any additional comments?

Usually the background music is great, but sometimes the background music is irritating, or confines the mood. It would be nice if one ear had just the narration without the background music, so I could choose whether I want to include the background music.
