FBI Special agent Brad Raines is facing his toughest case yet. A Denver serial killer has killed four beautiful young women, leaving a bridal veil at each crime scene, and he's picking up his pace. Unable to crack the case, Raines appeals for help from a most unusual source: residents of the Center for Wellbeing and Intelligence, a private psychiatric institution for mentally ill individuals whose are extraordinarily gifted.

What disappointed you about The Bride Collector?

The writing and the narrator were both big misses for me.

What was most disappointing about Ted Dekker’s story?

Maybe I could have tolerated the writing, but the narrator's reading of the story on top of the writing made the whole experience unbearable.

Would you be willing to try another one of John Glover’s performances?

I will always give a narrator a second chance, but I will listen to the preview very carefully as well as read listener reviews.

A brutal killing takes place on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland: a land of harsh beauty and inhabitants of deep-rooted faith. Detective Inspector Fin Macleod is sent from Edinburgh to investigate. For Lewis-born Macleod, the case represents a journey both home and into his past. Something lurks within the close-knit island community. Something sinister. As Fin investigates, old skeletons begin to surface and soon, he, the hunter, becomes the hunted.

What did you love best about The Blackhouse?

The location of the book was what drew me in as I've visited some of the islands of the Hebrides. I loved reading about the island of Lewis and the culture there. The mystery was a great story on top of all that.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not the plot per se, but what I couldn't wait to get in the car and listen to was the weaving of murder and mystery with family, traditions, culture, and a coming of age tale.

What does Peter Forbes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

By providing the voices of the characters, not just their accents but the cadence of their speech, I could "see" the characters much better. I was amazed at the number of accents in which Mr. Forbes read.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The description of the islanders' taking of the guga was completely fascinating and horrifying in and of itself. It was made even more so when told through the eyes of the main character looking back on his first trip.

It's not the dead that seem strange to Quirke. It's the living. One night, after a few drinks at an office party, Quirke shuffles down into the morgue where he works and finds his brother-in-law, Malachy, altering a file he has no business even reading. Odd enough in itself to find Malachy there, but the next morning, when the haze has lifted, it looks an awful lot like his brother-in-law, the esteemed doctor, was in fact tampering with a corpse, and concealing the cause of death.

What made the experience of listening to Christine Falls the most enjoyable?

I don't know that I would call this book "enjoyable". The story was compelling and kept me drawn in. It took me awhile to listen to it because some days I needed to hear a story that was less intense, happier, if you will. This story was all in blacks, grays, and slate greens in my mind.

The writing was very good. Timothy Dalton's performance was at times a little too dramatic.

What three words best describe Timothy Dalton’s voice?

I can't describe it in 3 words. Great accent, nice characterizations, at times over-the-top dramatic.

    Any additional comments?

I will read Benjamin Black again. But only when I'm in a certain mood.

Where does The Crowfield Curse rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In this genre, it's one of the better books I've listened to.

    Any additional comments?

I thought the narrator did a fine job vocalizing all of the characters. I enjoyed the storyline very much. I would definitely recommend it for it's intended age group and adults who enjoy a good, no stress, no violence tale.
