  • Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Mary Roach
    • Narrated By Emily Woo Zeller

Best-selling author Mary Roach returns with a new adventure to the invisible realm we carry around inside. Roach takes us down the hatch on an unforgettable tour. The alimentary canal is classic Mary Roach terrain: The questions explored in Gulp are as taboo, in their way, as the cadavers in Stiff and every bit as surreal as the universe of zero gravity explored in Packing for Mars. Why is crunchy food so appealing? Why is it so hard to find words for flavors and smells? Why doesn’t the stomach digest itself? How much can you eat before your stomach bursts?

Kirstin says: "Mary Roach Does Not Disappoint!"
"A Book For Those Who Enjoy Taking A Dump"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. Many of my friends, for better or worse, are fascinated by poo. This book is more or less a documentary on their favorite subject.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

Its all really good. I loved the chapter on what different species like to eat and why.

Have you listened to any of Emily Woo Zeller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Think she did other Mary Roach books. They are far from boring.

If you could give Gulp a new subtitle, what would it be?

"A Book For Those Who Enjoy Taking A Dump"

  • Snow Crash

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Neal Stephenson
    • Narrated By Jonathan Davis

Neal Stephenson is a blazing new force on the sci-fi scene. With the groundbreaking cyberpunk novel Snow Crash, he has "vaulted onto the literary stage." It weaves virtual reality, Sumerian myth, and just about everything in between with a cool, hip cybersensibility - in short, it is the gigathriller of the information age.

    A. Tuck says: "Classic Stephenson"
    "Pretty Amazing for 1992"
If you could sum up Snow Crash in three words, what would they be?

    Surprisingly Accurate Sifi.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Snow Crash?

In the first few pages when delivering pizza is a life and death matter.

What does Jonathan Davis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

did not really notice, maybe that is a good thing.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Not that riveting.

    Any additional comments?

Snow Crash was released in 1992. At this time the internet was just being born. Yet the author described things that are not really that far out. The Metaverse, sounds a lot like Second Life or any MMO.

I can see elements from this book that have been borrowed in other science fiction.

Totally worth listening to if you are a tech person or a fan of sifi.

  • Decision Points

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By George W. Bush
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Decision Points is the extraordinary memoir of America's 43rd president. Shattering the conventions of political autobiography, George W. Bush offers a strikingly candid journey through the defining decisions of his life.

Dave says: "Not a bad choice"
    "Very interesting"

I was highly critical of Bush durring his presidency. It was very interesting to hear his side, from him. Great read/listen for anyone who is interested in his presidency. I can't say it changed my mind on his policies but it did add context and increased my respect for him.
