I rather enjoyed the first book, but this one disappointed.
The story line is OK, but the monologue is so bad that I find myself tuning out from time to time.
If you want a time filler this is for you, but if you want a page turner...
The endless dialogs was taken 5 steps too far in this one...
Only one thing happens and it is smack in the middle of the book. The rest of the dialog is so far fetched that not even rolling the eyes would do it justice.
I really don't understand how this book can have such a good rating.
It even ends abruptly and left me looking for a missing chapter.
Just finished a marathon listening session...
I was so looking forward to this book and feel somewhat disappointed in the way this finished, almost like leaving room for yet another book.
The first half of the book is actually pretty good with the feel of a great epic story coming to an end, but then the battle starts and keeps on going and going and going and going.
So many hero's die that I start to think that somehow they all will wake from the dream in the end.
Then the end came suddenly and even though the epilog is almost an hour long things are not wrapped up properly, instead trying to become a massive tear jerker.
I think a lot of the exhausting battle time could have been used to clean up a lot of the threads that is left untied.
I know a lot of reviewers will give this book a 5 purely because the series has been that good, but there is no way this book should get anything above a 4.
Better language, maybe I am old fashioned, but using F--k and Sh-t to make up word count puts me off.
Dumb female character is so 60's...
Yes, Benjamin puts in a good performance and made this book almost listenable.
Not so much cut as upgrade. I know the author wants to "set a scene", but most of the work is just sloppy and rely on idiots for it to work.
People who like Impossible situations and constant tension building would like this. Not sure I can stand to get through another drama queen attempt. The narration was decent and the reason I enjoyed the book to some degree.
First halve of the book was great. Interesting listen, but then the author changed gears and seem to think that building tension means that you write one imposible situation on top of another and then miraculously the situation gets resolved. If I was reading, I would have skipped whole pages.Spoiler alert:I did not think the alien artifact/possible invasion should have been in here.
I wish the author did not try to "step it up" in the second part of the book and thereby turning it into a soap opera. This story really has/had potential.
Focus on the meat of the story
Overdoing the movie style Rocky scenes. (hero gets beaten to death and then miraculously gets up and beat the other guy)
I bought the series and have no interest inlistening to the others.
This series has real potential, but Jim need to step back and read his own stuff again.
In this one book one of the main characters are as good as dead and then miraculously escapes so many times that my eyes literally hurt from rolling them in my head. He also uses the same words over and over to describe these "a second from death" scenes. (20 plus times, I would guess...in one book!)
Write an adventure, but leave the "B" movie stuff for others.
Sam tried to bring some life to this book, but the story was underdeveloped and left incomplete, probably with an eye on bringing out another book. A waste of my time and money, please don't waste yours.
Some over the top action scenes, but everyone seem to do that these day.
It is a good mindless story, but the narration is off at times. ( whiny voice ..)
There are none of those page filler stuff in here(you know, those pages of junk some writers put in to get more words in).
The dialogs are interesting and well narrated by the cast.
I enjoyed it very much.
