The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting, and bloody confrontations with ancient and implacable sorcerers. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen’s rule remains absolute, enforced by her dreaded Claw assassins. For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners, and for Tattersail, their lone surviving mage, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the many dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities, yet holds out.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

    Less characters

Would you be willing to try another book from Steven Erikson? Why or why not?

no, I listen to audiobooks in my commute and this book requires 100% of your attention. If you get distracted, you'll be lost for a few minutes.

What aspect of Ralph Lister’s performance would you have changed?

Sometimes he gets confused as to who's voice he's reading.

Could you see Gardens of the Moon being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Maybe, no clue.

    Any additional comments?

I've been listening to audio books for more than 5 years now. I've got hundreds of them. This one is by far the only one where 7 hours in, I'm still not quite sure who's who.

For fifteen years FitzChivalry Farseer has lived in self-imposed exile, assumed to be dead by almost all who once cared about him. But now, into his isolated life, visitors begin to arrive: Fitz's mentor from his assassin days; a hedge-witch who foresees the return of a long-lost love; and the Fool, the former White Prophet, who beckons Fitz to fulfill his destiny. Then comes the summons he cannot ignore. Prince Dutiful, the young heir to the Farseer throne, has vanished.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone not looking for action or for the plot to move along at all.

Has Fool's Errand turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no.

What does James Langton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Good performance, well defined characters and accents.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

There was some action at the end.

    Any additional comments?

I don't mind the overall homo-erotic vibe between all male characters but the fact the all the action happened before the book started and is just recalled by the main characters is torture.

It was written for a younger audience

Has Monster Hunter International turned you off from other books in this genre?

    no

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disapointment. I liked the Hard Magic Trilogy by the same author.

    Any additional comments?

I really wanted to like it, I tried to muscle through it but gave up. Life's too short to read bad books.
