I don't usually read sci-fi and maybe this is why if this is supposed to be one of the best of all time. It was boring and more than contrived. I never really cared about any of the characters and couldn't stand listening to the voice of Val, Ender's sister, with it's constant mournful droning and sounds of lament. If she sighed one more time I would have puked.
The surprise was that you were at the end and didn't even know it but it came none too soon.
This was the first book I had listened to and withheld my review until I heard at least one other. I can now say the experience was totally enjoyable and highly recommend this book. I could relate to the main character and although the situation was somewhat unbelievable, it was not hard to get past the premise and become involved in the situation. A real "page turner".
I listeened through the whole book but really had a hard time geting involved until 2/3 of the way through. And the ending was equally disappointing. Many of the characters were two-dimensional. To paraphrase the movie "Amadeus", there were too many words. Perhaps the unabridged version would have been better for me.
