Robert Graves continues Claudius' story with the epic adulteries of Messalina, King Herod Agrippa's betrayal of his old friend, and the final arrival of that bloodthirsty teenager, Nero.

Darwin8u says: "The Deified King of Historical Fiction"
    "Very strong presentation"
    Overall

I had to work a bit to get into this one but I don't know much about Roman history. This was a great intro. Runger did a stand up job, very solid. On to the sequel.

As the bombs of the Blitz rain down on Britain, one young girl is evacuated to the countryside. She is struggling to make sense of her new life, whose dark, war-ravaged days feel very removed from the peace and love being preached in church and at school. Then she is given a copy of Asgard and the Gods - a book of ancient Norse myths - and her inner and outer worlds are transformed. She feels an instant kinship with these vivid, beautiful, terrifying tales of the end of the gods - they seem far more real, far more familiar during these precarious days.

Would you consider the audio edition of Ragnarok to be better than the print version?

Both were excellent. The language is very rich. I enjoyed going back and forth between the two versions.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the way Byatt incorporated her growing up with the myths into the book. This added a whole new dimension that I wasn't expecting.

Have you listened to any of Harriet Walter???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Walter was a new reader for me. Where has she been hiding? She was great. I just bought her version of Mansfield Park. I wish she had a bigger list of books. I hope to hear much more from her. She added tremendously to this audio.

In the early 1800s, the British Navy stands as the only bulwark against the militant fanaticism of Napoleonic France. Jack Aubrey, a brilliant and experienced officer, has been struck off the list of post-captains for a crime he has not committed. His old friend, Stephen Maturin, usually acting as the ship's surgeon to cover his activities on behalf of British intelligence, has bought for Aubrey his old ship, the Surprise, to command as a privateer.

  • Go the F--k to Sleep

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.

    No

What could Adam Mansbach and Ricardo Cortes (cover illustration) have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

    Not written it

What three words best describe Samuel L. Jackson???s voice?

    I liked Jackson's voice

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Sadness and disappointment. This book shows what is wrong with our culture.

    Any additional comments?

I couldn't recommend it. For Jackson to say it reminds him of his own life is just sad, sad.

From James McManus, author of the best-selling Positively Fifth Street, comes the definitive story of the game that, more than any other, reflects who we are and how we operate. Cowboys Full is the story of poker, from its roots in China, the Middle East, and Europe to its ascent as a global - but especially an American - phenomenon.

    Larry says: "Big disappointment"
    "Too much detail!"
    Overall

Not for me. Too much detail. The reader was okay, I didn't like the "book."

Cy Judge says: "A great audio book"
"Best book I have listened to this year"
    Overall

I listen to maybe 20 books per year. This is absolutely outstanding. I immediately went and downloaded Noble House and I intend to work my way through all the Clavell books. Why don't they write books like this anymore?

  • Noble House

    • By James Clavell
    • Narrated By John Lee
    Overall
    (687)
    Performance
    (424)
    Story
    (416)

The setting is Hong Kong, 1963. The action spans scarcely more than a week, but these are the days of high adventure, from kidnapping and murder to financial double-dealing and natural catastrophes: fire, flood, and landslide. Yet they are days filled as well with all the mystery and romance of Hong Kong, the heart of Asia, rich in every trade: money, flesh, opium, power.

Lily says: "Great story, great narrator"
    "An excellent, excellent reading"
    Overall

I recently read Taipan and couldn't wait to get to Noble House. This is an outstanding book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes Clavell, China, Hong Kong, and even business thrillers. The length initially seemed daunting but book flew by with this excellent reading by John Lee. So sad it is over.
