I bought this based on the reviews for the book. My kids didn't get into it and I finished it only because I started it. Of the two Funke books I've read, both were imaginitive, but are paced too slow. She's got adult ideas, but puts them in childish form and doesn't flesh them out because of her intended audience. It would make a great movie adaptation, but the fantasy aspects you expect don't show up till later. Other kids may like this, but my two daughters didn't.
Great for listening to on long drives. Sometimes that means circling the block, parking lot or neighborhood to make the drive long enough
Good plot that keeps the suspense going.
I like that she can tell a good story without sex and violence. Story is PG-13, most other books in the genre are definitely "R".
Yes. Cute story with a lot happening in the book.
Not as good as Harris' Harper Connelly series, but still very entertaining.
The narrator sounds like she's reading a textbook at first, but then starts to change the voices up a little. Second book sounded even better.
Couldn't finish it in one sitting, but did finish it in two days. Enjoyed the book and I've listened to the second and downloaded the third now to hear more. Enjoyed it.
Liked this book a lot. Only thing I didn't like from the audio portion was saphira's voice. People picked it apart because it's a repeated tale, and it's predictable, but it's still a great story. (written by a teenager). I kept thinking of Starwars while I read it. A lot of parallels. Good book, you'll enjoy it.
I bought the book for my daughter for her school project and decided to listen to it to help quiz her if needed. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It amazed me how many "modern" things tied in or came out of this world's fair. Tieing the killer and the fair together didn't always work out and I'd have liked to hear more about both seperately, but the book was really good. It worked on the historical and crime aspects and was an enjoyable listen.
I loved the premise of the story but was very glad when I finished it. I hate abridgements of books, but this one needed some editing very badly. It goes on and on. There were so many good things about this story that I really did like ... you won't completely regret listening to it. The narrator was really good, the words and visual pictures (no pun intended) were good. But there were a lot of minuses. The author definately muzzled the villain. This would have made a really good Stephen King or Koonz book/story. I've downloaded the next book to hear what else happens, but its out of curiousity more than anything else. I downloaded it for the kids and listened to it first, I don't think my kids would finish the book... it's too long.
I really enjoyed this book, both for the history as well as for the detailed information on the men from the raid. It made me want to learn more about the Raiders and their association after reading through it. The mispronounciations were bad at times, but the book itself was excellent. Good read, but long.
I got this book for the kids and decided to see how it was compared to Artemis Fowl. I thought it was a good book with a lot to it. You have to excuse some of technology stuff which I didn't find very believable (although some of it was pretty cool). But, thought it was a great book for teens. I could see this being a movie without too much change to it and a good one at that. Take a listen!
I thought the book was very good. I didn't like the woman's voice used by the narrator (as mentioned by another poster here). Ignore the narrator and listen to the content. It's worth getting through.
I came across this book in passing and now realize it was meant to be. This is an excellent book and destroyed so many illusions for me that I'm starting to re-read it and have gotten the hardcover book to go through. I've already loaned the book to two others and mention it constantly. I was listening to the book during my daily commute and heard my inner "doubts" making comments about what I was hearing only to hear Mr. Eldredge voice those same doubts. This really made me realize the battle I was up against to become fully alive. God Loves Us All! You'll love the book and enjoy the stories, humor, and warmth that come from listening.
