  • Untamed: Medieval Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 59 mins)
    • By Elizabeth Lowell
    • Narrated By Anne Flosnik
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A hero of the crusades, Dominic le Sabre has returned in glory and in triumph to claim his reward: the beautiful Saxon bride awarded to him by the conqueror king. But Lady Margaret of the Blackthorne cannot yield to the bold Norman invader.

    Diana says: "Perfect!"
    "Major narrator fail"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would not recommend this book to anyone. The narrator has totally ruined the experience for me because of the most boring narration and phony voices. I have had to stop repeatedly to brace myself to just listen to the STORY, not the narrator. I am appalled she was not stopped and told to begin this book again.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    The Woman in White

What didn’t you like about Anne Flosnik’s performance?

Her horrible attempt at making a man sound "evil." She had three levels of inflection throughout the entire story, most of them a hoarse whisper. The levels never varied. I can talk about the mail being delivered with more enthusiasm, inflection, or variation in my speech.

Did Untamed inspire you to do anything?

Yes. It inspired me to write my first review. Sad that it had to be because the narration was so poor. The story was not much better.

    Any additional comments?

I will be most cautious to make sure I do not get a book narrated by her again.

  • I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Malala Yousafzai
    • Narrated By Archie Panjabi
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl spoke out. Malala Yousafzai refused to be silenced and fought for her right to an education. On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, when she was fifteen, she almost paid the ultimate price. She was shot in the head at point-blank range while riding the bus home from school, and few expected her to survive. Instead, Malala's miraculous recovery has taken her on an extraordinary journey from a remote valley in northern Pakistan to the halls of the United Nations in New York.

Jan says: "So much more than expected..."
"I just do not write reviews."
If you could sum up I am Malala in three words, what would they be?

This book SOARS!! Malala is a major inspiration to me, and I am 60 years old. I did read one review that said it would be hard to tell where the ghostwriter stops and the real Malala begins. There is no doubt that the ghostwriter here captured the TRUE MALALA. I wish I could meet this brilliant young and MOST insightful girl. In this day and age when Muslims are getting such a bad rep, she lets us know what is really in the hearts of Muslims.

Malala, it would be a miracle if someday I met you. It would be a dream for me. I could honestly put this one on my bucket list.

This book is phenomenal. I am not one for present-day literature, for autobiographies, or books of this nature. But this book just SOARS way above anything of its kind. How can I describe what this girl means for her country and for peace? I can understand why she was passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize. But it's like an Academy Award Nomination. The nomination is a feather away from the actual award. Kudos, Sweet Girl. Stay at your stand and become even more well known. You are an admirable human being, and I humbly acknowledge your inspiration!

  • Speaks the Nightbird

    • UNABRIDGED (30 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Robert McCammon
    • Narrated By Edoardo Ballerini
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Carolinas, 1699: The citizens of Fount Royal believe a witch has cursed their town with inexplicable tragedies -- and they demand that beautiful widow Rachel Howarth be tried and executed for witchcraft. Presiding over the trial is traveling magistrate Issac Woodward, aided by his astute young clerk, Matthew Corbett. Believing in Rachel's innocence, Matthew will soon confront the true evil at work in Fount Royal....

aaron says: "Dark, Twisted Period Piece with GREAT Characters!"
    "Speaks to my soul!"
If you could sum up Speaks the Nightbird in three words, what would they be?

Only one flaw...(the flaw: matches were not commonplace until over 100 years later.)

Who was your favorite character and why?

Matthew Corbett because he's obviously the HERO! But Mr. Bidwell reminds me of an old blusterbuss boss attorney for whom I worked.

What does Edoardo Ballerini bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

OMG... what a VOICE! Mr. Ballerini, you are SO SPOT ON!

    Any additional comments?

I need historical accuracy. Matches were not a common occurrence until over 100 years later. I highly advise you update your book to make note of that fact.
