Like Cynthia Harrod-Eagles, Ann Cleeves is not publicised enough in North America. She has a wonderful sense of place, especially in The Shetland Quartet, and her writing is excellent. She creates wonderful characters and plots. I would like to see many more of her books available on Audible.com. The narrator of this series isn't my favourite and doesn't give a Scottish flavour to the dialogue, but is adequate and has a British accent. The quality of her books deserves the best narrators but shows through any flaws in that area.
Cynthia Harrod-Eagles is a lovely writer. Her characters are created and treated with compassion. Because I now can only access audio books, this is the only one of her books in this genre (romantic fiction, domestic fiction?) I have 'read', but I would definitely read more if could. Her characterization is delightful and plot well done and interesting. The narrator did an excellent job and suited the book very well. Enjoy! There should be more of these novels on Audible.com.
