  • How We Decide

Jonah Lehrer arms us with the tools we need to figure out how we decide, drawing on cutting-edge research by Daniel Kahneman, Colin Camerer, and others, as well as the real-world experiences of a wide range of "deciders" - from airplane pilots and hedge fund investors to serial killers and poker players. Lehrer shows how people are taking advantage of the new science to make better television shows, win more football games, and improve military intelligence.

    Overall

The book itself is interesting and explains a complex subject in very plain language, yet the audio performance ruins it somehow.

Perhaps the publisher was overcompensating for the author's fast talking style, the narrator chosen talks way too slowly, with a weird stage-y voice throughout, as if being consciously highbrow, giving the impression of old educational tapes. The slow pace and mumbled sound forces the mind to wander, and I have to constantly pull myself back. Concentrating doesn't help, because when you concentrate, you cannot help but think, and you can't help thinking faster than he talks.

A great popular science book -- I recommend buying it in print instead.
