    F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel of the Roaring Twenties is beloved by generations of readers and stands as his crowning work. This new audio edition, authorized by the Fitzgerald estate, is narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain). Gyllenhaal's performance is a faithful delivery in the voice of Nick Carraway, the Midwesterner turned New York bond salesman, who rents a small house next door to the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby....

    Story

When people say they don't like The Great Gatsby it often means they have missed the point. This is a novel about awful people living awfully meaningless lives and doing awful things. The characters are not supposed to be likeable - that is the point. Without purpose to their life, they have just lived by their emotions and drowned their pain in their cash. The moral of the story is that when you live that way, you and everyone around you will be made miserable by your decisions.
    Fantastic audio performance by Gyllenhall.

This clever play takes on the serious subject of past pain and unforgiveness. Through his use of humor, Alexander McCall Smith addresses how "reasonable and educated" people can become sucked into prejudice and unforgiveness. It is respectful of people's hurts while still challenging them to move forward.

It's a well known fact that a newborn princess will often be subject to a curse, especially if her royal parents neglect to invite an important magical relative to the christening. But never has there been a curse as charming (and hilarious) as that which befalls the Light Princess. Deprived of gravity, she can't take anything, or anyone, seriously. Even worse, she's apt to blow away on the first stiff breeze!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The voice actors contributed to the overall enjoyment of the story.

What did you like best about this story?

This has been my favorite book for years. The characters are fun, the moral is powerful but not heavy-handed. George MacDonald is a treasure that is still largely undiscovered.

Have you listened to any of Cynthia Bishop and the Full Cast Family ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The best fairytale you've never heard
