Great writing, compelling story, and superb narration equal one great audio experience. i can understand why this book won the Pulitzer. Any young man thinking of going to war should read this to make an informed decision.

The best audio books are ones where the narration adds to the story. Freedom is a "narration added" book. Suarez, the author, is a worthy successor to Michael Crichton: he shows the same attention to detail while asking the question, "what if we went --this-- far?"

Easily five stars.

What a wonderful ride....incredible narration... I just kept saying, "Oh please don't end inconclusively."

It did. The book seemed to be gearing up for a great conclusion. And then it ended.
Terrible.

I thought this was going to be a great book. The first chapter shows such great promise. Unfortunately, the book is a as dull as a one note song. Each chapter makes the same point. Each chapter begins with some Roman history, which is superficially connected to American history or current events, and concludes with the same point. Over and over again.

This is a wonderfully written disturbing history of the CIA. I finished this book wondering if the CIA represents the inevitable malfunction of all government bureaucracies, or specific to an American spy agency. I fear the former, and am left with grave concern that intelligence can act intelligently.

This book could have been sooo much better if Sec. Albright had used a professional to narrate her book. I found myself zoning out for all but the most intriquing parts because her voice was so hard to focus on. She drones. Very monotone. Very bad narration. Aside from that, interesting perspective.

This would have been 5 stars, were it true. Now that the truth is out, if it's true that an addict will lie, cheat and steal for a fix, and since Mr. Frey did just that for money, his story of redemption is bogus. I'd get my book credit back from Audible, just on principle, but I like Audible too much. I wouldn't give this author one more dime.

I liked the structure of this novel, and I mostly liked the characters, but the ending did not live up to the buildup. I hate it when that happens. Most disappointing. Were the ending more satisfying, I'd probably give it 4 stars. I must agree with another reviewer who found the voices and music somewhat distracting at times, but mostly, the producers of this audio version get A for effort in making this ever so slightly different than the book, and different than many audio books that are simply read.
