Daniel Byrne is an investigator for the Vatican’s secretive Office of the Devil’s Advocate - the department that scrutinizes miracle claims. Over 10 years and 721 cases, not one miracle he tested has proved true. But case #722 is different; Daniel’s estranged uncle, a crooked TV evangelist, has started speaking in tongues - and accurately predicting the future. Daniel knows Reverend Tim Trinity is a con man. Could Trinity also be something more? The evangelist himself is baffled by his newfound power.

Trinity Game was well-plotted, well-paced and contained characters with interesting back stories. I'm happy to see it appears to be the first of a series! Luke Daniels is really a master of dialects and portrays the differing personalities exceptionally well.

Working as a Hound---tracing illegal spells back to their casters---has taken its goll on Allison Beckstrom. But even though magic has given her migraines and stolen her recent memory, Allie isn't about to quit. Then the police's magic enforcement division asks her to consult on a missing persons case. But what seems to be a straightforward job turns out to be anything but, as Allie finds herself drawn into the underworld of criminals, ghosts, and blood magic.

I enjoy the magical universe that Devon Monk has set up. She's a clever writer and, while each book answers most of the questions posed, she leaves hints to tantalize the reader to continue reading the lengthy series. The pacing of revelations is good. My problem is with the main character. One of the given parameters is that magic uses the user and there is a physical price to pay for casting spells. Allie (yes, she's coping with memory loss caused by magic) still can't seem to remember to disperse magic when she uses it. She also seems to be too stupid to realize she needs to eat more than coffee and donuts. And doesn't seem to be able to come in out of the rain all the time, either. The narrator has a nice voice but as the tension ramps up, she becomes very whiny sounding rather than the tired/dogged voice I would expect from someone trying to save the world.

Unlikeable, self-centered heroine is annoying. And when she hooks up with hero she continually tells him "no" and he doesn't stop. "No" means 'No". I couldn't finish this one and I love her Wallflowers and her Hathaways series.

This third book in the series is a bit more serious as Atticus heads out on a quest to punish Thor for a number of egregious acts done over the years. Atticus is supported by his vampire lawyer and various legendary beings. A good story with lots of intricacies that pull together in the end.

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, doesn’t care much for witches. Still, he’s about to make nice with the local coven by signing a mutually beneficial nonaggression treaty when suddenly the witch population in modern-day Tempe, Arizona, quadruples overnight. And the new girls are not just bad, they’re badasses with a dark history on the German side of World War II. With a fallen angel feasting on local high school students, a horde of Bacchants blowing in from Vegas, and a dangerously sexy Celtic goddess of fire vying for his attention, Atticus is having trouble scheduling the witch hunt.

The narrator does a great job of keeping the story humorous and voicing the various characters. This book would be a perfect "beach listen". Lots of fun.

Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old - when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer. Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries....

Where does Hounded rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is the perfect audio for a road trip to the mountains or beach. The Druid protagonist, Atticus O’Sullivan, tries to stay out of the way of various dieties while brewing healthful teas, living the pagan life with his amusing wolfhound, and protecting the earth.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hearne's cast of characters is interesting and varied but the narrator's voicing of the wolfhound makes him irresistible.

    Any additional comments?

I immediately bought the 2nd and 3rd books when I finished listening to the first one.

Would you listen to Silent Joe again? Why?

Yes, lots of subtle character relationships, smart writing that engages the listener to enter the complete world and put things together for himself. Fascinating interactions.

Which character – as performed by James Daniels – was your favorite?

The narrator is a nuanced talent. Many characters and they are so well differentiated that it sounds like multiple voices. Smooth and professional presentation.

    Any additional comments?
