"Beautiful book!"
I absolutely loved the scenes of unexpected meetings with family members. I was so happy Diana had the opportunity to meet Phillippe. I also loved meeting the various famous people from the 16th century such as Kit Marlowe and Queen Elizabeth. Deborah Harkness did a fabulous job bringing them to life!
My favorite character is Diana (no surprise there). I love the way she always wins over Matthew's family & friends despite their prejudices. She inspires fierce loyalty in the people she brings into her circle.
I highly recommend this series. Diana and Matthew's story is one of the most unique I've read in a long time. If you love Diana Gabaldon you will love this series as well.
"Author's narration improved from first book"
I wrote a negative review regarding the author's performance as a narrator on the first book. While it is true the narration was bad, I decided to give book 2 and 3 a chance. I found that the narration improved with the second & third installments. The story line is interesting and the character development has progressed to the point that I am hooked. I will buy the 4th & 5th installments when they are complete.
"Narration is horrible"
I can't in all honesty recommend this audiobook simply because of the author's narration. It is horrible! It's so boring I had to keep listening to parts of the book over & over because my mind would wander & I kept getting lost. It sounds like a librarian reading out loud to children for story hour. This was a really good book & I wish the author would consider having a professional narrator re-record the books. I think I will be getting a refund & will just buy the books on my Nook. Audio books are expensive & people should be able to listen to a narrator who can bring the book to life. I own over 200 audiobooks that I've listened to multiple times because the narrators are more like actors & make it a great experience.
Other than the narration I think the book is definitely worth reading. Save your money/credits & buy the ebook or paperback.
