I really loved this book. It ranks in the top 10% of the mystery and suspense books I've listened to in the past several months.
This book really filled in some "holes" in its prequel The Surgeon. It introduces the character of Isles, and Jane Rizzoli is filled out as a character. It was exactly what Tess Gerritsen needed to do to get this dynamic duo going.
I can't pinpoint just one scene. I think the scene where Rizzoli is witnessing a murder scene and hearing the details of the crime was one of my favorite scenes. As she is listening, she is also rubbing her fingers over the scars left in her hands from her encounter with a murderer with a very similar MO. This shows the reader that the encounter left Jane with more than just physical scars. It makes her vulnerable and less "tough".
If only there were more than 24 hours in a day! I couldn't wait to get back to listening to this book every day. I wanted to curl up in a corner of the couch and finish the book ASAP!
I love the impossible situations lead character Jack Reacher gets into. It is always a great plot twist that steers Reacher out of trouble. Child is such a master. Can't wait for the next book! Hope Reacher makes it to Virginia!
The best thing about this story is that as a reader, you know what is happening to the main character even though he doesn't realize what he's fallen into. Then, in a great plot twist, the reader is left in the dark while it is the main character that has figured out the solution. Great fun.
Reacher running through an abandoned government installation blindly, knowing it is his last stand.
Jack Reacher is wanted for murder...and he's running from the FBI!
Gripping, thrilling, exciting
Pendergast has been one of my favorite characters since the series beginning. He's calm, Southern, and brilliant.
Without giving away the plot, the escape scene from the island was awesome.
Yes! I couldn't stop. I listened to the entire book in two days.
One if my top picks. Action packed, sexy, and keeps you guessing!
I'm famous for figuring out plots before I get to the middle of a book. This one was a total surprise up to the end. I loved it!
Dick Hill is the perfect Reacher voice. You feel like Jack is right there in the room. Great inflection and tension in the voice. He brings the story alive.
The midnight train. Nothing else be said!
Could not stop listening. No stop tension. Great action. Loved the midnight train!
This book had plenty of action. Kate shows that dynamite comes in small packages.
I've read several of Stabenow's books, and this is one of the best stories. Her descriptions of Alaska are vivid and make you want to live there with all the colorful characters.
Marguerite has a gifted voice. Her inflection and interpretation of the words bring the book to life.
Yes...I did listen in one sitting.
The Surgeon is the "first" in the Rizzoli and Isles books. I was a little disappointed that Jane was NOT the featured character and Isles was non-existant; however, the story was really good. I would have liked a bit more development in the characters and story, but all in all I found the book good and creepy!
The plot was a bit disjointed in places and relationships were not rounded out, but the suspense was pretty good. Some twists that seemed out of left field. I would recommend the book.
Boutsikaris's narration was the best part of the book. He used a wonderful creepy voice when we are taken into the mind of a killer. Haunting.
The most memorable character in The Surgeon was the killer! This is mostly due to Boutsikaris's utterly creepy "madman" voice! I will hear it in my head for a long time.
