What made the experience of listening to Manage Your Energy, Not Your Time (Harvard Business Review) the most enjoyable?

This was a short piece which was tightly focused on energy and how to manage energy. It began from the standpoint that time is a finite resource whilst energy can be renewed. Then it went into the ways to renew energy. Great listen. I will undoubtedly listen to it again - something I do with very few titles.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the tight focus. It focused on one area and covered it well. I'm definitely looking at more from the Harvard Business Review.

What about Todd Mundt’s performance did you like?

He was easy to understand, didn't speak too fast or too slow and seemed to impart an enthusiasm for the topic which was enjoyable.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I purchased this book with great expectations, hoping to like it. I was basically highly disappointed. This was a didn't finish for me.

More fresh information - within the text of THIS book rather than freebies on the author's website and advertisements for his other books.

What could Jeffrey Gitomer have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It may just be that this author is not a match for me. I just didn't care for the book. I'd hoped for something new in the world of positivity, positive attitude, etc. I didn't find that in this book.

What did you like best about Morning Light? What did you like least?

I typically enjoy stories with characters with psychic abilities, and this book was not an exception in that respect. I enjoyed the realistic treatment of Loni MacEwen's psychic abilities...not so much as a gift...but as a curse that she couldn't control...which kept messing up her life. That part of the story was good. I enjoyed the hero who was a good match for her on many levels.

What I didn't like was the preachy nature. The author seemed to hit quite hard on how wrong premarital sex is...right before her characters engaged. The preachy nature overwhelmed a lot of other things that I liked and made what might have otherwise been a 4 or 5 star read only an average one.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I liked the ending. It was satisfying on all levels.

Which character – as performed by Julia Gibson – was your favorite?

I liked her performance of Clint - the hero.

Did Morning Light inspire you to do anything?

LOL - certainly NOT to remain abstinent till marriage. :)

    Any additional comments?

Catherine Anderson is one of my favorite authors. I buy and read most of what she writes - though she is one of the authors that I tend to read sparingly because I don't ever want to be without one of her books to read. Though this wasn't my favorite it was a good read on a lot of levels and would have been a good read if she'd left out the heavy handed approach to premarital sex...particularly since her characters engaged.

It was whispered all through London society that he was a murderer, that he'd spent his youth in an asylum and was not to be trusted - especially with a lady. Any woman caught in his presence was immediately ruined. Yet Beth found herself inexorably drawn to the Scottish lord whose hint of a brogue wrapped around her like silk and whose touch could draw her into a world of ecstasy.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I would definitely recommend this audiobook to friends who enjoy romantic suspense who are open to historical settings.

One of the big strengths of this book for me was the character of the hero Ian Mackenzie. Ian had some undiagnosed peculiarities that undoubtedly today have some long medical names, but back then the peculiarities weren't particularly seen as strengths or weaknesses but as madness.

Ian has a photographic type memory - though not just with things he sees or reads...but with things he hears as well. He has a strong ability with music, with math, and with other things. He also has trouble relating to people socially...crowds drive him crazy...he interprets things literally, not understanding jokes. These things make him a unique and wonderful character.

That he was abused and labeled mad because of these unique aspects made him a wonderfully wounded hero that it was easy to hope would get his happy ending.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the realistic treatment of the heroes extraordinary abilities and his weaknesses. I liked the way that the heroine accepted his unique traits without judgment and without automatically thinking him mad. I liked that she trusted her instincts where it came to him. I liked her spunk and her willingness to stand up for herself and Ian.

    Any additional comments?

This was my first Jennifer Ashley book. I will definitely be looking for others from her. This one was definitely worth the credit.

Would you try another book from Shiloh Walker and/or Cris Dukehart?

Maybe - but I'd probably stay away from books in a series as a general rule. It is possible I will pick up book 2 in this series sometime. I hate an unsolved mystery and this book left the mystery unsolved.

This book had a lot of characters and a very slow start. Spoiler alert: It ended with only a happy for now ending...and the mystery still unsolved...and I hear remaining unsolved till book #3.

I bought this book really looking forward to it and hoping to add a new favorite author to my list of favorite authors but this one missed that mark for me.

Would you recommend If You Hear Her to your friends? Why or why not?

I recommend a lot of books, but this is not one I could recommend. I liked the characters, particularly the treatment of the blind heroine who likes movies and who works and walks in the woods and does all the other things sighted people do. I liked the hero. I liked the heroine's guide dog and her interaction with the dog.

However, the things I didn't like overpowered the things I did like. I struggled to keep the characters straight, especially early in the book. The scenes without the hero and heroine REALLY slowed the pace of the developing romance in THIS book and though those scenes may have served to plant seeds for the eventual solution of the mystery the mystery still remained unsolved. My major complaint with this book is that the ending wasn't satisfying in any way. The mystery wasn't solved and the romantic relationship just sort of stopped suddenly with the heroine thinking something along the lines of she didn't know what would happen later, but for now life was good. There just wasn't a sufficient pay-off in the ending - in ANY way. If the mystery had resolved or the conflict within the romantic relationship had been stronger and more powerfully resolved I would have been happier.

Would you listen to Ruthless again? Why?

If I had it to do over I would definitely buy Ruthless again. Will I listen to it again? No. I never listen to fiction books a second time, nor do I reread books I've read before. There are too many new books out there to be discovered.

But I did very much enjoy this book.

I enjoyed both the hero and the heroine. The heroine had wounds...and the hero was definitely a bad boy. I am quite fond of bad boy heroes. There is something about the bad boy becoming good that I find powerful in romance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ruthless?

There were many...but I don't want to give away anything.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I know a lot of people care a lot about the narration. I primarily listen to audio books so that I can do other things while enjoying a story. She provided the ability to be mobile while listening.

I liked the way she did the voices of the various characters.

'Tis the season for mistletoe and holly, Santa . . . and suspense. And the gift that keeps on giving is Ice: premier thriller author Linda Howard's breathless tale of a man, a woman, and a battle for survival against an unforgiving winter - and an unrelenting killer. Oh what fun it is to read.

What made the experience of listening to Ice the most enjoyable?

It was a suspenseful read. I enjoyed Lolly's spirit, the fact that when things seemed stacked against her she thought about the situation and devised a solution.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ice?

Lolly's attempted escape from the couple who have taken her hostage in her home. It's very suspenseful. I can't really say more without giving away plot points.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Same as above

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I liked Lolly's interaction with the hero's son.

    Any additional comments?

The ending seemed a bit rushed...it seemed novella length when perhaps the story would have been better served with a bit more length...a bit of time to develop the relationship between hero and heroine AFTER the ice storm - in normal surroundings.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book might appeal more to readers looking specifically for inspirational fare. I am not opposed to inspirational fare and do read in that genre - however this book just didn't seem to make it for me - either as inspirational or not. The book didn't hang together for me...the characters didn't seem consistent either throughout the book or within the context of the time period in which they lived.

Has Wagered Heart turned you off from other books in this genre?

Not from this genre as I've read a lot from this genre and usually enjoy it. I will likely think long and hard before I buy another book by this author.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kathy Garver?

I don't know - I really didn't like her voice for the heroine's friend. She made the dialogue seem stilted.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Frustration and dread. I actually dreaded listening to this book. Actually not wanting to listen to a book frustrates me because it is not like me at all. I'm an avid fan of audio books and enjoy both fiction and non-fiction in audio format. I preferred silence to this book - hence the decision not to finish it. There are too many other books to listen to that don't inspire such a reaction.

What would have made Protective Custody better?

If either character had had the sense to come in out of the rain the book would certainly have been better.

The heroine watches a murder and is glued to her spot - unable to call the police. Then she's chased out of her office by the murderer. Instead of going toward people she goes away from people. The next day after receiving threatening calls from the murderer she goes poking around the scene of the murder.

Can you spell too stupid to live?

The hero after making a big deal about how the heroine shouldn't be alone is too busy installing his bosses new TV to pick her up from work...

    Again...just bad...

I rarely write bad reviews...but this was just awful. I didn't finish it...which is also rare.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I've listened to a lot of things since this. I listened to the 50 Shades Trilogy which I liked.

What didn’t you like about Lola Holiday’s performance?

Lola's performance was okay. She frankly didn't have much to work with.

What character would you cut from Protective Custody?

It wasn't the characters that were bad - it was more that their actions didn't make sense. It was as if things needed to happen in the plot at certain times so the author just had the characters do things...things that made no kind of sense and made them look stupid.
