Eugenie Markham is a powerful shaman who does a brisk trade banishing spirits and fey who cross into the mortal world. Mercenary, yes, but a girl's got to eat. Her most recent case, however, is enough to ruin her appetite. Hired to find a teenager who has been taken to the Otherworld, Eugenie comes face to face with a startling prophecy - one that uncovers dark secrets about her past and claims that Eugenie's first-born will threaten the future of the world as she knows it.

What did you love best about Storm Born?

I love the story and setting. The characters are awesome and fun, lots of laugh out loud moments and the story moves right along.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character, Eugenie. If you read the VA books, she's like Rose, a total badass...with a good heart, snarky attitude, potty mouth...only older...and um, a bit promiscuous. Dorian is completely awesome. I also love Jasmine, she made me laugh a lot.

What does Jennifer Van Dyck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

At first, I was surprised at how mature she sounds for a character of this age, but I got used to it. She does a good job with the other world characters. Some of the accents were thicker than I had them in my head [I always read a book before I buy it on audible.com...I only buy my favorites, that I will listen to over and over, on audio.] but overall, she was good.

    Any additional comments?

There's a lot more sex in this book than I was prepared for, having only read Richelle's VA books. I can only imagine the Succubus books are way worse. Not saying the sex is written badly...it's not. But it is, um...often and a bit dirty. I would have read them anyway, but it would have been nice to be warned.

I have listened to it many times. It's well done and a fun listen.

Such big expectations for the movie, but omg so bad. So sad. But glad I have the book and the Audible performance. They are great.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Pagan Stone to be better than the print version?

    No.

What didn’t you like about Dan John Miller’s performance?

Not as bad as the first book in this trilogy, but not great.

    Any additional comments?

Why didn't they have the second books narrator do all three? She was so much better than the other two and the third is not nearly as bad as the first, but still It RUINS a book when the voices are just wrong. If a guy can't do a woman's voice without it sounding like a comedy routine, just don't.

For Fox, Caleb, Gage and the other residents of Hawkins Hollow, the number seven portends doom - ever since, as boys, they freed a demon trapped for centuries when their blood spilled upon The Pagan Stone.

Marie Caliendo should have read the entire series. It is so much more enjoyable when all three books in a trilogy are read by the same person, even if the book is from a different characters perspective or focus. Her voices were so much more believable and easy to listen to. I wish Brilliance would consider having the other two reworked. I am one who listens to my books, especially the Nora Roberts trilogies, over and over, but it will be hard for me to do that with these.

Every seven years, on the seventh day of the seventh month, strange things happen. It began when three young boys - Caleb, Fox, and Gage - went on a camping trip to the Pagan Stone. And 21 years later, it will end in a showdown between evil and the boys who have become men - and the women who love them.

Would you listen to Blood Brothers again? Why?

I usually listen to Nora's triologies over and over. There is not going to be any way I can listen to this one again. The voices are horrific. The main characters, the boys at first, sound unlike any actual boys, but I could bypass that, since it's a small part of the book. The men sound stupid, especially Gage. The women sound like gay men in a sitcom. I swear to God, they do. I can barely listen to the "romance" talk between the characters. So bad.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The most realistic sounding character is Cal's granny. And still. Ugh.

What didn’t you like about Phil Gigante’s performance?

His main narration sounds like he's selling something. His characters are awful.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Hard to have that.

    Any additional comments?

I am usually not that fussy about narration, but this guy needs to stick to non-fiction or self help. Maybe technology books.
