"never listen to an audio book Johnny Depp narrates"
I'm very confused.... I'm listening to this book that should be fascinating... but it is read in a monotone voice... and I'm bored out of my skull!! I'm about to give up on the book... when suddenly and without explanation and no break in the story... whammo! a new reader... and he takes the story to a whole other level... suddenly the story is riveting, passionate and unapologetic as it should be... I love it I love it I love it.... and then last night as I'm listening... uh oh... four hours before the end of the book... it's that monotone voice again.... a grueling four more hours with Johnny Depp?? Okay, so my guess is that originally they probably wanted him to read it with a Jack Sparrow like performance... but my guess is Disney owns that character and so therefore he's not "allowed" to use the voice of Jack sparrow to talk about dope, bitches, junkies and rock n' roll... so instead he chooses to be monotone??? And he calls himself an actor?? If you can't use the voice, at least read with passion.
The middle reader is fantastic... sounds just like Keith Richards... brings the book to a whole other level... too bad he couldn't have read the whole thing.
... but really... am I going to have to do another 4 hours of JD just to finish....???? aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!!!!
"Illuminating."
Esther Perel has created an incredible book that is both illuminating and extremely well written.
Her heavy accent took a little bit to get used to, but by the end of the book I had grown used to it, and I found her reading to be engaged and passionate.
The book will not give your relationship a quick fix... but instead requires that you do work and that both partners examine closely their own dynamic.
"Fantastic!"
Margaret Atwood can do no wrong... she is a superb writer. This book I figured out at the end, is the prequel to Oryx and Crake. (Which is also superb!).
"Funny!"
This book is absolutely hysterical... and really... You just can't NOT love Tina Fey!
"Imaginative dreamlike and very Japanese."
I liked this book... I thought that the translation was superb.
I was somehow disappointed by the ending... I found it to be drab. However the journey the book takes you on is marvelous throughout.
The book was very well read.
"sweet story..."
It didn't blow my mind... but there were some sweet moments, and also some good humor. It was a little different coming from the perspective of a dog.
"Took a while to get engaged and then...."
The book started of extremely slow... but thankfully near the end, heated up and make all that slow slogging through the first half of the book feel worthwhile.
The story in the end becomes absolutely twisted!
"Feisty female character for a change!"
I would recommend this book to any friend with a teen or pre-teen daughter. Here is a book that is inspiring and empowering for young girls.
If you ever read or watched the movie twilight and felt disgusted by the insipid character of the pathetic girl that 'needs' a boy to feel worthwhile, then here is a book that achieves the opposite. The main character 'Lucy' is feisty and independent and brave. Thank goodness there is an author out there that realizes the power of female role models in prose.
The book has action and romance and intrigue and all the things that will rope any young girl into voraciously consuming this story.
There are many incredible moments in Ashes Ashes, but it is really amazing how the author transforms some familiar landscapes into the catastrophic remains of what it used to be.
"Incredible..."
This book was simply fantastic! I enjoyed the historical aspects of it... and the story was incredibly written and well read!
"It wasn't History of Love but...."
it was still a good listen! Love the readers she has for her books!
