Exotic. Entertaining. Consuming. -- Amy Tan's gift for exposing and explaining human nature burns brightly in this book. As an American, I love reading these books to discover more about Chinese culture. Realizing how much we have in common, and how different our cultures are is always a treat, and an education. Amy's descriptions of even the most minute detail or feeling is artfully crafted with the main character, Violet. I always feel like a fly on the wall and can see the rooms these characters sit in as I glide through each pages. If you've never read an Amy Tan novel, you have truly missed out on a masterwork.
Oberon the dog is the funniest character I've read in years. He's developing nicely in this series. The Druid, Atticus is pretty awesome also! love the series! The reader is doing a fabulous job!
I am now afraid of old people in RV's. This book was a surprise in many ways. It is the sequel to The Shining with the child Danny now as an adult. There are more twists and turns and unexpected joy and sorrow than I've read in a while. Stephen King is a master at the craft of having the evil creatures just keep on coming at you. This is so well done, and so unexpected, you can't put it down.
My favorite character in the Iron Druid Chronicles series is Oberon. The dog. The author has given Oberon the best one liners. I laughed out loud as I listened to Oberon's commentary to the point my co-workers had to know what I was listening to so they could purchase a copy for themselves. The main character, Atticus, is given the most thought provoking character I've read in a while. He is the Druid you are looking for. Atticus is as level headed, in touch with nature, kind and in control. Atticus is just a cool character in many ways. I highly recommend! I am currently working through the entire series myself.
I can't tell you the loose ends without giving the book away. They are so obvious and ridiculous that the characters completely lose credibility. The book is just not well structured. You keep hoping for the good stuff to hit, and it just doesn't.
If you want a book to go with the television series Justified, just leave this entire series alone and forget it. Sadly, this would have been so much better if the guy who read it didn't try to sound Southern, and dumb at every single opportunity. The hero of the book is an idiot? That does not sell books.
This was read and came out as dry as toast. It could have been so funny if it had been read right. I wouldn't want to know any of the characters in this book on a personal level. There are so many losers it should be a convention. I bought books 2 and 3 (2.5) and they sucked just as badly. I was hoping for it to get better. When read, this could have been such an opportunity to create an unforgettable character. Instead, it's like the guy just read it to get a paycheck. No soul. No heart. No understanding of any of the people depicted in this book. I would love to read this myself to all of you just to prove a badly written book can be made better with some effort from the extemporaneous speaker.
I don't like this author. I don't like the reader.
Language is Darynda Jones' favorite toy. This very funny series is the reason all my friends are mad at me. I've gotten them all addicted to Charley Davidson and waiting for the next book to come out is agonizing. We love them. The humor which is peppered throughout, even when the main character isn't quite herself and may be staring death in the face, is refreshingly funny and laughter through tears sometimes is my favorite emotion. The story line is never boring.
Well, this is the funniest book I have listened to in a while. It is laugh out loud funny. Betsy is the first vampire with excellent taste in shoes, and even dead, comes to get them back from her step-monster. Breaks every vampire rule out there. Ann Rice, move over!
