This was a pick for my husband. He found some flaws in a few facts but overall he enjoyed the book. As a non-chess geek, I too had a good time listening. The narrator was fine but might have needed a little boost of caffeine now & then.
Fisher's is a sad story but this book brought a lot of light to his tale.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in Bobby Fisher. It felt like a complete, fair, and loving tribute to a brilliant, broken man.
so much fun! Light-hearted,easy romp. It's holiday fun full of romance, old-fashion English festivities and murder!!! Very enjoyable. Looking forward to the entire series.
More than an historical novel, this is such a sweet story, witty, warm and enthralling.
The characters are lovely and they show us how life goes on before, during, and after WW II.
Narration is well done and helps with the uneven pace & flow of the book. Colorful characters. Would have asked for a refund if I had paid full price instead of getting it on sale.
This is a true adventure about a sensitive, farty boy who grows into a sensitive farty man. It's an open, honest, heartwarming, witty, entertaining, unabashed autobiography. This may sound trite but these are accurate descriptions. If you love Craig you will love his story and become an even bigger fan of the man. He doesn't glorify his alcoholism or his drunken antics: he is straightforward, matter-of-fact, and naturally good humored about his trials. Craig Ferguson is an adventurer and I was delighted that he shared the journey.
The last chapter will make you swell with pride to not only be an American, (if that applies), but proud to be a human who has survived your own adventure. If you are also a sensitive, farty person, this final chapter will bring tears to your eyes.
Bravo Craig! and thanks
great historical detail, kept me hooked. The story flows smoothly from past to present keeping interest and maintaining the mystery.
The author & narrator take us for a harrowing ride with the candy bombers. I read the hardcover & was so impressed that I couldn't wait to hear it read to me with this audible edition.
This is a refreshing history lesson told as a gripping story full of fright, passion, sadness and joy. So many times the hair stood up on my arms and I cried out of terror and happiness. An outstanding story about the triumph of heart.
So many things came to light about the cold war and how close our world did come to communism.
Cherny made this manly history lesson read like chick-lit while including the details of politics and war.
My father and husband are history buffs & they were overjoyed with it. Even they learned new things.
Excellent Excellent Excellent!
Gone with the Wind stands the test of time. The story is epic and engrossing. Linda Stephens' narration is superb. It is wonderful to hear the richness & depth of the characters that we so love & that became rather iconic through the movie version. I read this as a teenager & forgot so much of it. This felt like a wonderful visit with an old friend.
Very fun romp in the life of a vampire hunter. So glad Seth Grahame-Smith kept the historical bits as factual as possible. Although it was just a little too gory for my tastes the story was enjoyable. (I rather prefer my vampires to be more romantic.) Having recently listened to the superb audible Gone With The Wind, this seemed to fit right in with my library.
Barbara Rosenblat's performance captures BJ perfectly! Fun fun fun story.
This is an excellent, light-hearted adventure. As Bridget would say, "VG indeed"
