Born in a South Africa divided by racism and hatred, this one small boy will come to lead all the tribes of Africa. Through enduring friendships with Hymie and Gideon, Peekay gains the strength he needs to win out. And in a final conflict with his childhood enemy, the Judge, Peekay will fight to the death for justice.

Bob says: "Compelling story lifted higher by the narration"
    "Well Written"

Another great production by Bryce. I guess this was the first, but it was not the first I read. The author really brings together a great historical sequence of life and the trials and tribulations of the main character, PK. Interesting ending, very different than I was expecting, but I'll say no more on that so as not to spoil it for others.

This is a great read especially if you like other Bryce Courtenay books and if you ike a great life drama, with a little humor sprinkled in this is a book for you.

Ken Follett's World Without End was a global phenomenon, a work of grand historical sweep beloved by millions of readers and acclaimed by critics. Fall of Giants is his magnificent new historical epic. The first novel in The Century Trilogy, it follows the fates of five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they move through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women's suffrage.

Where does Fall of Giants rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Ken Follet has become one of my favorite authors from his early books to this trilogy that will keep you interested from first words until the last epilogue. Each book can stand alone, but makes you want more and follow the whole life of the family.

Have you listened to any of John Lee’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Next book in the trilogy is great too.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    The realism of the history.

Winter of the World picks up right where the first book left off, as its five interrelated families - American, German, Russian, English, Welsh - enter a time of enormous social, political, and economic turmoil, beginning with the rise of the Third Reich, through the Spanish Civil War and the great dramas of World War II, up to the explosions of the American and Soviet atomic bombs. As always with Ken Follett, the historical background is brilliantly researched and rendered, the action fast-moving, the characters rich in nuance and emotion.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Can't say enough about the way Follet makes world war ii come alive through the eyes of people of all the main countries. While battling their own personal challenges they battle each other from other countries. Puts a very personalized view on the events of the war and the actions that made some people despicable, some countries terrible and yet humanized others to show their compassion.

This was a wonderful and very enjoyable book. Listened to Demillees LIons game a couple years ago, took a flyer on this one because I liked that one. This was even better, didn't realize that the Generals Daughter introduces one of the main characters, but didn't need to read it ot enjoy this one. Going back the Generals Daughter now to see how it flows if it is half as good as this one it will be well worth the purcahse.

The Bedford Boys is the astonishing true story of 21 young men who were killed during the first horrifying minutes of D-Day and the friends and families they left behind in the small town of Bedford. Twenty-one sons killed - no other town in America suffered a greater loss in one day. It is an unforgettable story of triumph, courage, and tragedy based on extensive interviews with survivors and relatives as well as diaries and letters.

Ron says: "gripping narrative of a community sacrifice"
    "What a story"

This book is well written. It was a very enjoyable listen. After reading about this event in history we bought the book and listed on our way to Bedford VA for the DDay memorial.

Just be sure you understand the order, I read or at least started Drums of Autumn not realizing it was after Voyager, it reads OK, but so much it described I couldn't remember happening, that was because it had occurred in the previous book of the series. I love the series and plan to go through waitng for the unabridged versions of the 5th, 6th and 7th ones.

After a 12-year absence, a real-life prodigal seeks to serve his hometown, New Auburn, Wisconsin, population: 485, by joining the volunteer fire and rescue department. In a place where men post claims of manhood on bug deflectors, where the local vigilante is a farmer's wife with a pistol and a Bible, and where the most senior firefighter is a cross-eyed butcher with one kidney and two ex-wives, writer Michael Perry sets out "to meet my neighbors at the invitation of the fire siren".

First book read by this author, turns out it was from the area where I grew up so I can attest to the truth of some of the stories. Even had relatives named in it though the actual names were not used. The corner in the second chapter is where my aunt lived. Great humor interjected into a serious story, well done although some might not get the humor in the reality of the story
