I enjoyed the growth of the author and the story line started out interesting. I only heard sloppy, sloppy, sloppy twice. The story seemed to flow much better then the previous books in the series. Then all the sudden it was a personality swap with the characters that we've come to know and I was at a total loss of enjoying the rest of the story. At this point I'm not even interested in a next book at all.I understand angst and drama needed to add to a story but come on... We've been through this stuff before with Donovan. Owen, what the heck happened! And Gin, how can I root for a character that is so spineless with her personal life.... And the constant calling Owen her lover, made me want to puke.
That she seemed to forget her characters personalities or she choose for them to be spineless and mindless shells of what they were or could be.
Am I being harsh? Maybe... but after 6 books, you come to know and expect more from a story then a tough as nails assassin, moping around and questioning herself for protecting those she loves by doing the job she believes is right then crying over a man that betrays her completely. Then we are left with her hoping that time heals this man and brings him back.. WTH?!?
Pretty great addition to a hot series. But I honestly recommend reading it rather then relaying on the audio to get into this series. Tantor changed narrator's this time but it still was rough getting though, what should be a hot listen. Elizabeth Hart was slightly better then the previous books narrator, she has potential (maybe) but I still had a hard time trying to just get into the story and ignore the irritation
"Grrrrr! Now this could be for the growl or groan I made when I finished 5th Grave Past the Light and have to wait for the next book, (I'm guessing a year) or this grr could stand for the GRRREAT! that Tony the Tiger makes. I loved this book! 5th Grave met and exceeded all of my expectations. It answered questions, made me ask more questions and twisted me all up on the inside. Each book in this series dragged me more into this world and grips me harder and harder. Daryndra Jones has created some great characters and they all impact me, good and bad. From the first time I seen the cover of First Grave on the Right posted and recommended by JR Ward on her website (The White cover with the skull sandals and scythe). I thought hmm this looks interesting. When I read the blurb, a chick named Charely Davidson who happens to be the Grim Reaper, I was sold. I've never been disappointed. I was hooked with the first few chapters. With laughter or heartbreak I've loved this series completely and I recommend to everyone who will listen. I will admit my stomach clenched over the "post-it" note on Charelys door in chapter 9, and my co-works think I'm nuts. I had a few bust out loud with laughter moments today and The GPS app with OZZY as the Voice... All I can say is "Holy Crow! I want that!" The audio book is an awesome way to get into this series. Lorelei King is a great narrator and she does an excellent job with this series.
Was super excited to see Powertools is audio and I thought WOW I'll just get the all in one. NOPE doesn't work for me... Narration is good, story good but what's up with starting out last book first?!! I guess I should have just bought all of the story's separate. It wasn't horrible but chronological order would have been nice. I kept getting distracted and I've read the books... I can just image how someone who is just experiencing the Powertools series is going to feel.
As much as I love the character of Dory and the story, the story left me wondering what was going on till the end. Almost wondering what the plan was here. It wasn't a complete waste, it filled out in the end. By biggest complaint! What's Up with the Cover for the audio!?! I didn't notice this till I went back and tried to re-listen and realized I bought a audio that is being sold under a different books title! Having purchased all of Karen Chance's books in audio, (because the craziness and constant action is easier to rewind then flipping back through many pages) I now have TWO audio's with Midnight's Daughter COVER!. That's right some person reused a cover photo from a previous book as THIS books cover. Not only do I have to look closely when I want to listen to which ever book and not just pay attention to the title, I don't get to see the new artwork. Maybe I'm picky or maybe Audio book listeners don't matter, but I Like my cover art!
Now maybe all this and the spot on the 2nd part where it says this is the end of the cd to continue please put in the next disc is just a strange mistake that happens. Which I have purchased other audio's that WHERE sold on audible where the ENDING was not the same as the published book. This book was released Oct 2nd but the Audio wasn't available till Oct 30th so they had time.
I'm sure other either liked or saw the humor but it just fell flat to me, been on and off trying to finish this book but I give up.
The cover caught my eye and I took a chance. I gotta say getting past the first couple of chapters was difficult, but then the story dragged me in and I really liked it. I can't wait to get the next in the series. The narration needed some work though! I had a hard time getting into the story in the beginning because she was rather annoying, but either I just got used to her or she got better as the story continued.
The plot was thin and the main characters were completely annoying
that I paid for it
No redeeming qualities! It's a first person narrative with a horrible protagonist who makes every wrong move and decision and not much of interest for the other characters. I forced myself to finish this and just got more angry!
What a WASTE
It's on my relisten list. I enjoyed the world and charactors. I can't wait for other books in this series.
really sad that the next in the series isn't on Audible! I'm hoping that will change soon.
This was an interesting start to a series. I can't say I was on the edge of my seat but once I got a couple of chapters in I didn't want to stop! I'm eagerly waiting for the next in the series. I was very surprised at how much I ended up liking this book.
