I can't believe it took me this long to start this series. What was I thinking. Excited to get on to the next books. I've heard so many good things about this series and for some reason I just kept putting it off. This is a great start though. Most series have a rocky first book and so much is wasted on explaining that the reader has a hard time getting drawn into the world. Not this book. I was drawn in and the story and world building just flowed for me.

As much as I love the character of Dory and the story, the story left me wondering what was going on till the end. Almost wondering what the plan was here. It wasn't a complete waste, it filled out in the end. By biggest complaint! What's Up with the Cover for the audio!?! I didn't notice this till I went back and tried to re-listen and realized I bought a audio that is being sold under a different books title! Having purchased all of Karen Chance's books in audio, (because the craziness and constant action is easier to rewind then flipping back through many pages) I now have TWO audio's with Midnight's Daughter COVER!. That's right some person reused a cover photo from a previous book as THIS books cover. Not only do I have to look closely when I want to listen to which ever book and not just pay attention to the title, I don't get to see the new artwork. Maybe I'm picky or maybe Audio book listeners don't matter, but I Like my cover art!
Now maybe all this and the spot on the 2nd part where it says this is the end of the cd to continue please put in the next disc is just a strange mistake that happens. Which I have purchased other audio's that WHERE sold on audible where the ENDING was not the same as the published book. This book was released Oct 2nd but the Audio wasn't available till Oct 30th so they had time.

I'm sure other either liked or saw the humor but it just fell flat to me, been on and off trying to finish this book but I give up.

The cover caught my eye and I took a chance. I gotta say getting past the first couple of chapters was difficult, but then the story dragged me in and I really liked it. I can't wait to get the next in the series. The narration needed some work though! I had a hard time getting into the story in the beginning because she was rather annoying, but either I just got used to her or she got better as the story continued.

I enjoyed the growth of the author and the story line started out interesting. I only heard sloppy, sloppy, sloppy twice. The story seemed to flow much better then the previous books in the series. Then all the sudden it was a personality swap with the characters that we've come to know and I was at a total loss of enjoying the rest of the story. At this point I'm not even interested in a next book at all.I understand angst and drama needed to add to a story but come on... We've been through this stuff before with Donovan. Owen, what the heck happened! And Gin, how can I root for a character that is so spineless with her personal life.... And the constant calling Owen her lover, made me want to puke.

That she seemed to forget her characters personalities or she choose for them to be spineless and mindless shells of what they were or could be.

Am I being harsh? Maybe... but after 6 books, you come to know and expect more from a story then a tough as nails assassin, moping around and questioning herself for protecting those she loves by doing the job she believes is right then crying over a man that betrays her completely. Then we are left with her hoping that time heals this man and brings him back.. WTH?!?

The plot was thin and the main characters were completely annoying

No redeeming qualities! It's a first person narrative with a horrible protagonist who makes every wrong move and decision and not much of interest for the other characters. I forced myself to finish this and just got more angry!

What a WASTE

It's on my relisten list. I enjoyed the world and charactors. I can't wait for other books in this series.

really sad that the next in the series isn't on Audible! I'm hoping that will change soon.

This was an interesting start to a series. I can't say I was on the edge of my seat but once I got a couple of chapters in I didn't want to stop! I'm eagerly waiting for the next in the series. I was very surprised at how much I ended up liking this book.

Sophie Eastlake did a great job narrating this. I had a few issue's with Grace and the fast pace and skimmy over of key points in the story.

Really Liked this story! Loved Khalil. Still wondering about Grace. I liked her but sometimes I didn't. It's not a five star cause some things felt too rushed. Would have liked some more interaction with Khalil and his daughter. But it was still a good read and this is on my will re-read list.

Might listen to this again. The series is starting to pick up the pace but for some reason this narrator just drags for me. I can see him doing another story better or maybe it's the director. I'm still on the fence if I'll try other in the series.
