What made the experience of listening to Thinner the most enjoyable?

THE NARATOR WAS GREAT AND I LIKED THE STRANGE MUSIC BETWEEN CHAPTERS.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I LIKED THE OLD GYPSY MAN, LEMPKA. THO KING DIDN'T DELVE INTO HIS LIFE HE MANAGED TO PORTRAY THE INJUSTICE AND UNFAIRNESS THAT THE GYPSIES HAD TO ENDURE. I LIKED HIM BECAUSE HE WAS KIND OF SCARY YET HE WAS A MAN WHO REALLY JUST WANTED JUSTICE.

Which character – as performed by Joe Mantegna – was your favorite?

MANTEGNA DID A GREAT JOB PORTRAYING ALL OF THEM. AGAIN I PICK LEMPKA. I THINK HE DID A GREAT JOB WITH PORTRAAYING HIM.

If you could take any character from Thinner out to dinner, who would it be and why?

HEIDI. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN HER HEAD.

    Any additional comments?

I WISH I KNEW WHO DID THAT MUSIC BETWEEN CHAPTERS AND WHERE I COULD LISTEN TO MORE OF IT. IT WAS VERY EERIE.

A VERY GOOD STORY. I READ YEARS AGO. I LIKE THE AUDIOBOOK VERY MUCH AND WILL LISTEN TO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

A greedy, philandering Baptist minister, Elmer Gantry turns to evangelism and becomes the leader of a large Methodist congregation. Often exposed as a fraud, he is never fully discredited. Elmer Gantry is considered a landmark American novel and one of the most penetrating studies of hypocrisy in modern literature. It portrays the evangelistic activity that was common in 1920s America as well as attitudes toward it.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

NOPE. I HAD TO WORK AT IT TO FINISH THE BOOK. IT WENT ON AND ON TO NO RESULT.

What was most disappointing about Sinclair Lewis’s story?

    THERE WAS NO STORY HERE.

Which character – as performed by Anthony Heald – was your favorite?

NONE OF THEM. THEY WERE BORES.

Could you see Elmer Gantry being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

NO, BUT MY MOM TOLD ME IT WAS A GOOD MOVIE. MUST HAVE DONE SOME DOCTERING TO THIS STORY AS I CAN'T SEE IT BEING A MOVIE.

    Any additional comments?

NO MORE SINCLAIR LEWIS FOR ME!

It was a split-second operation as delicate and as deadly as a time bomb. It demanded the concentrated devotion and vigilance of more than six hundred men for every hour, every day, and every night for more than a year. With only their bare hands and crude homemade tools, they sank shafts, built underground railroads, forged passports, drew maps, faked weapons, and tailored German clothes.

What other book might you compare The Great Escape to and why?

A FICTIONAL BOOK. INTENSITY. ONLY BECAUSE BOTH WERE VERY VERY TENSE.

What about Robert Whitfield’s performance did you like?

    HE DID A GREAT JOB!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    YES AND I DID.

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

What did you like best about The Girl on the Train? What did you like least?

IT NEEDED EDITING. THE STORY WENT ON AND ON. I THOUGHT IT WAS OVERLY MELODRAMATIC. THE READING WAS GREAT.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

THE WAY THE STORY WAS TOLD THRU THREE PEOPLE. THAT WAS INTEREASTING. THE LAST THIRD OF THE BOOK WAS AN EFFORT TO READ.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

    ALL THREE WOMEN MAIN CHARACTERS.

Was The Girl on the Train worth the listening time?

NO BUT IT WAS NOT A COMPLETE WASTE EITHER.

Would you try another book from Mette Ivie Harrison and/or Kirsten Potter?

    I DON,T THINK SO.

What could Mette Ivie Harrison have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

DON'T DRAG THE BEGINNING AND DON'T SCREW UP THE END OF THE PLOT.

Do you think The Bishop's Wife needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    I WOULD NOT BUY IT!

    Any additional comments?

INSTEAD OF WASTING SO MUCH EFFORT ON SUCH A BORING BEGINNING, THE AUTHOR NEEDED TO TAKE THE TIME TO END THE BOOK IN A MORE IMAGINATIVE WAY.

What did you love best about Garden of Shadows?

I LIKE THE WAY CHARACTERS INTERACTED WITH EACH OTHER. THIS BOOK GAVE YOU A VIEW OFWHY THE GRANDMOTHER IN "FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC" BEHAVED THE WAY SHE DID.

What other book might you compare Garden of Shadows to and why?

ALL THE VC ANDREWS BOOKS IN THE FLOWER IN THE ATTIC SERIES REMIND ME OF EACH OTHER AS THEY INVOLVE THE SAME CHARACTERS. THIS ONE CENTERED ON THE GRANDMOTHER, OLIVIA AND HER LIFE.

Which character – as performed by Sally Darling – was your favorite?

    OLIVIA WAS MY FAVORITE.

If you could take any character from Garden of Shadows out to dinner, who would it be and why?

I THINK I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE OUT JOHN AMOS. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HE WAS THINKING.

    Any additional comments?

I READ THIS BOOK WHEN I WAS ABLE TO PHYSICALLY READ. NOW I CAN READ IT ANYTIME I WANT ON AUDIO! I LOVE THE BOOK.

Scattered recollections - of childhood, adolescence, motherhood, old age - come together in this transformative narrative, stitched into a vibrant whole by McDermott’s deft, lyrical voice.

A BOOK BUT NOT A PLAY.

What did you like best about this story?

IT HAD LOTS OF POTENTIAL. BUT I FELT THE PLAY LEFT SOMETHING OUT. I DID NOT FEEL I UNDERSTOOD THE WHOLE STORY. I MAY READ IT AGAIN AS IT IS NOT THAT LONG. I FELT IT GOT BETTER TWORDS THE END.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

I LOVED RICHARD DREYFUSS ESPACIALLY BUT I AM PARTIAL TO HIM. I HAVE SEEN HIM IN MANY MOVIES. HE IS TALENTED.

Was Glengarry Glen Ross worth the listening time?

YES IT WAS BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. IF I WAS IN THE AUDIENCE I AM SURE I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN A LOT MORE OUT OF THE STORY.
