Described as one of the best-known life coaches in America, in media such as Psychology Today, O columnist Martha Beck has demonstrated a rare gift for helping people who have gone off course to find their way back to authentic, rewarding lives. Now, in Steering by Starlight, Dr. Beck describes the step-by-step process she uses with her private clients to help them find their way back to their "homing instincts" - their true destinies.

Would you try another book from Martha Beck and/or Martha Beck?

Started out well. Great theory. Then something goes terribly wrong with the story. I detect vendetta...Now I did not know the back story of Ms. Beck going into the 'listen'. Middle of the book, I do an internet search and read a little of her history. Things start falling into place now. Sounds like she had 'the visit' from her Bishop or some folks from the LDS church and they were on her hide about quitting the church and no doubt other stuff...So, after getting an idea of Ms. Beck's back story and the fact that I don't like to quit mid-story... I listen on...I just feel its way over the top with some of the Kitschy-ness...again too much like the Secret. I feel like it's the Secret all over again, but Ms. Beck just changed up the words and phrases. Also, the guy who intersperses comments, as lead ins to what's coming next in the narration, is a bit creepy sounding and it also sounds like he thinks the whole story is pretty laughable. I guess too, I was just a bit offended that I was duped into listening to this thing, because, like I said earlier, the book did start off promising...

What could Martha Beck have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

It's okay to want to make money and all, but this was too much like the Secret to me. I think if Ms. Beck had skipped all the kitschy-ness and didn't try to make the book so similar to the Secret, she had some good tips. I would say, re-write the book and just use your own material. Don't try to be the 'Secret'.

Also, Ms. Beck's voice was not pleasant to my ears.

Would you be willing to try another one of Martha Beck’s performances?

not sure....it would have to be a more honest book than this one from the standpoint of really being original and not a copy cat version of the Secret.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I felt duped after about half way through. Definitely disappointed.

    Any additional comments?

Not really. I am going to look at some other comments to see if anyone else had this reaction.
