Jasper Fforde's delightfully zany Thursday Next series shows no signs of slowing down with its seventh entry, The Woman Who Died a Lot. Despite being semihappily semi-retired from SpecOps, Thursday accepts the head librarian position at the Swindon library. But soon threats from a supreme Deity, a mnemonomorph, and the nefarious Goliath corporation press Thursday back into active duty.

Lenny says: "Great continuation of the Thursday Next series"
"Follows up on previous books..should be the sequel"

What did you love best about The Woman Who Died a Lot?

You didn't have to have been familiar with the previous Jasper Fforde novels to understand most of the ideas behind this one.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jasper Fforde? Why or why not?

I have heard them ALL...from Thursday Next, through to all the others. I recommend them all, but I think you need to have listened to some of the earlier ones to know the underpinnings of the later ones (even when they are on different "tracks"").

Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to anyone who has listened to John G. novels in the past and enjoyed them. In a number of ways, it had some of the twists and turns of his previous novels.

Would you be willing to try another book from John Grisham? Why or why not?

I have listened to all his books. They are fine. The "good" thing about them is that they are all unrelated. So each one starts from scratch and you need to get to know all the characters to really understand them and appreciate them.

The Statfire Breeze steams its way north toward the Gulf of Alaska, buffeted by crisp sea winds blowing down from the Arctic. Those on board are seeking peace, relaxation, adventure, escape. But there is no escape here in this place of unspoiled natural majesty. Because terror strolls the decks even in the brilliant light of day...and death is a conspicuous, unwelcome passenger. And a former Seattle policeman, a damaged homicide detective who has come to heal from fresh, stinging wounds...

    Kelly says: "Entertaining"

Where does Birds of Prey rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was interesting to listen to, and J.P. Beaumont is on his new "retirement" tract. Unfortunately, it was very short (abridged is the only format available). However, it does a reasonable extension of some of the key characters from the J.P. Beaumont earlier series. There are a few oversimplified twists and quirks. If you enjoyed the previous books in the Beaumont series, this fits in well with the flow of those stories and J.P. takes on some good schemes about how to investigate crimes committed in an isolated situation where no one can really remove themselves from the investigation that J.P. is undertaking, and where no new person can be found responsible for the interesting actions that take place in the main story.

One of the world's most acclaimed novelists, New York Times best-selling author Ian McEwan has earned the Booker Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. After their parents die, four children are left alone in the family house. They are free to live however they choose, but they must preserve their terrible secret.

Yennta says: "One of his best"
    "What was the point?"
    Overall

The book started out interesting but it went nowhere and it got there fast. It was plodding and it seemed to have no point. I listen to every book that I purchase through to the end, but it was difficult with this one. And then, when it was over, it came to no resolution and seemed to just "stop" (thank goodness because at the end it got REALLY bad). This is one I plan to remove from my player, delete from my library, and hopefully erase from my memory. My only recommendation is to save time by not listening to this. Any book available has to be better than this.
