I love a mob story, and this is the real thing. Every bit as suspenseful and well-written as a best-selling novel, this true confession weaves a web of corruption and violence throughout the most powerful union in the country. The ties to top government officials, legislators, FBI, and even the President is so well researched and documented, it will leave you questioning everything you ever believed about our government. The human portrait of this very real hit-man as a husband, father, and friend made me see him as likeable, and in the end, tragic. Scott Brick's narration is perfect for this book.
I like a really good novel or literature for relaxation and escape. But real life stories like this are far more interesting. Everyone looking for truth in religion should read this book. The details about the short history of such a popular and fast-growing sect are fascinating, and you find yourself wondering how anyone can buy into the beliefs of the LDS faith, and questioning the basis of any religion, for that matter. The blood-curdling description of the murders done in the name of God are gripping. The long history of child-rape, incest, and brutality is incredible. The description in the killer's own words of the murder of a helpless child were almost more than I could take. I chose this book because Scott Brick is my favorite narrarator. It will be on my list of favorites for a very long time.
I am so hooked on this series that I can barely wait for my credits to come due to order the next one! I tried the first one out of curiosity, and it is so easy that I can't stop. I don't need to speak Japanese, but who knows--someday it may come in handy and I'll surprise everyone! For now, I am happy conversing in my car with the lady and gentleman on the audiobook. I throw in a phrase here and there at home, and my family is getting annoyed. (But I can tell they are impressed.)
