Captain John Staple’s exploits in the Peninsula had earned him the sobriquet Crazy Jack amongst his fellows in the Dragoon Guards. Now home from Waterloo, life in peacetime is rather dull for the adventure-loving Captain. But when he finds himself lost at an unmanned toll-house in the Pennines, his soldiering days suddenly pale away beside an adventure - and romance - of a lifetime.

    Overall

I have read and re-read these books since I was a child and they are all wonderful! Please don't fob us off with abridged versions though - two of my favorites, Venetia and Slyvester are only here in an abridged versions, and there is no point in even trying to listen to them if they do not contain every beautiful word and cant phrase!

The classic tale of passion on the high seas, available for the first time in 20 years... Merry Wilding is a lady of breeding, of innocence, and of breathtaking beauty. With high hopes for a holiday in England, she sets sail from New York - but the tide of her life is destined to turn. Mistakenly swept aboard an infamous pirate ship, Merry finds herself at the mercy of a wicked crew...and one sinfully handsome pirate. Soon she's spending her days yearning for escape, and her nights learning the pleasures of captivity.

It's as good as when it first came out - and I read it twice then and still have the paperback. The men are delicious, the story compelling, and the narrator superb. It remains one of my favorite romances - up there with Georgette Heyer's books and one I am sure I will listen to again.

I expect better from a veteran author like this, both in terms of writing and plot. The heroine and her friend think they are in danger and need to leave their house at once, so instead of leaving, they decide to drink themselves into a stupor because they don't want waste a couple of bottles of wine! Who does that?? Ridiculous.

    Story

I usually hate books told by reading letters and other documents BUT after the first few documents were read, this captured my attention and held it. It is told from both the lawyers perspective as she learns how to handle a civil case and a divorce, and the from that of the woman who's husband is dumping her. Having gone through a divorce, I found it very true to life, with all the craziness and, and yes, humor that goes into to trying to hammer out an agreement. In the end, her husband dumps the smarmy law firm and finds someone decent to represent him, and all ends on a high note. That is the only thing that didn't ring true. More often than not, decency does not prevail, bt it made for a happy ending so I guess it works.

Lily Ellis has curves - soft, beautiful curves. The kind of voluptuous body she fears Travis Carson, the man she's always loved from afar, would never crave. But Lily is about to be proven wrong. Watching this sensual beauty move down the runway, Travis can't believe it's the same Lily he's always known - and always rejected. Grace Stanton’s life as a rising media star and beloved lifestyle blogger takes a surprising turn when she catches her husband cheating and torpedoes his pricey sports car straight into the family swimming pool. Grace suddenly finds herself locked out of her palatial home, checking account, and even the blog she has worked so hard to develop in her signature style. Moving in with her widowed mother, who owns and lives above a rundown beach bar called The Sandbox, is less than ideal. So is attending court-mandated weekly "divorce recovery" therapy sessions with three other women and one man for whom betrayal seems to be the only commonality. When their “divorce coach” starts to act suspiciously, they decide to start having their own Wednesday "Ladies' Night" sessions at The Sandbox, and the unanticipated bonds that develop lead the members of the group to try and find closure in ways they never imagined. Can Grace figure out a new way home and discover how strong she needs to be to get there?

Almost too realistic. Brings back a lot of bad memories about divorce and lying spouses. Mary Kay Andrews can't write a bad book but the beginning of this will leave anyone who's ever dealt with a cheater tense. Victory prevails in the end so it ends well. I would highly recommend it with a warning about flashbacks if you've ever been there and done that!

Emma Porter is 40, fat, frumpy, and a passionate amateur gardener. When her longtime lover dumps her for a younger woman, Emma escapes the cloying sympathy of family and friends by setting out on a summer-long driving tour of England's glorious gardens. A Dimity-contrived coincidence brings her to Penford Hall, a sprawling Gothic mansion in Cornwall, where she finds a duke in search of a missing lantern with extraordinary powers.

Yes, the narrator does tend to over enunciate, however it does not take away from the overall charm of these books. If anything, the reader can imagine that Aunt Dimity had a hand in getting her hired so she could learn her trade. After two books, she's starting to grow on me. Either I'm getting used to her, or more tolerant of eccentricities.

One sex scene after another, loosly connected by - oh right - not much, and what there is improbable! Fifty Shades of Gray has a lot to answer for in the field of romance writing right now, authors seem to be forgetting the romance - and sex gets pretty boring without a good story around it. Don't waste your credit.
