Where does My Mother Was Nuts rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

After listening to motivational and business books, I needed something light. Unfortunately, I found myself driving around a lot more just so I could listen to this book...instead of working! It was just fun to hear from Penny after all these years. A fun listen because it was her telling us about her life. It sound just like Penny, but older. Some may say it was a book about all the names she dropped...well...that was her life and it was fun to hear!

What did you like best about this story?

I liked how she came from meager roots, didn't have much direction really, and just fell into her life. She never seemed to go after anything, it just came to her. If it worked, great. If not, well...on to the next. Kind of like me...no idea what I want to be when I grow up, I just move from one day to the next and take care of whatever comes along.

What about Penny Marshall’s performance did you like?

I loved that she still sounds just like Laverne. Which she said she played just like herself.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, there are moments when you cry and moments when you laugh. Plenty of moments I didn't even know happened (why would I??). It was fun to have an insider view of Hollywood.

    Any additional comments?

If you love New Yorkers, loved Laverne, like hearing backstage Hollywood stuff that is not on a tabloid, want to be entertained, laugh some, cry some, buy the book. You will enjoy.

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. "Jess and Jason," she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good? Compulsively readable, The Girl on the Train is an emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller and an electrifying debut.

From its creation as a mail-order record company to the literal launch of Virgin Galactic, today Virgin is one of the premier ‘way-of-life’ brands in the world, trusted and enjoyed by many millions of people. In Business Stripped Bare, Sir Richard Branson shares the inside track on his life in business and reveals the incredible truth about his most risky, brilliant and audacious deals.

I was hoping for nuggets of wisdom on how to run a business. You got a few, but mostly it was Richard Branson patting himself on the back for what a success he is and how much fun he has. The book takes you through each of his business enterprises and shows you how they started, how some failed and how most succeeded. He is a good guy, I really like him, but this is the second book I listened to and both seem like a giant soap box of a commercial to get you to fly Virgin, or buy Virgin. Too bad Gildardt Jackson didn't narrate this one. I feel he could capture Sir Richard's essence better than Adrian Mulraney. Jackson also had much more emotion. Mulraney was just plain boring at times, combined with the content of this book (which I already got from the first book I listened to) was just putting me to sleep!

When Genius Failed is the cautionary financial tale of our time, the gripping saga of what happened when an elite group of investors believed they could actually deconstruct risk and use virtually limitless leverage to create limitless wealth. In Roger Lowenstein's hands, it is a brilliant tale peppered with fast money, vivid characters, and high drama.

On March 14, 2012, more than three million people read Greg Smith's bombshell op-ed in the New York Times titled Why I Am Leaving Goldman Sachs. The column immediately went viral, became a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, and drew passionate responses from former Fed chairman Paul Volcker, legendary General Electric CEO Jack Welch, and New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg. Mostly, though, it hit a nerve among the general public who question the role of Wall Street in society - and the callous "take-the-money-and-run" mentality that brought the world economy to its knees a few short years ago.

I do love reading about Wall Street - especially during the crash of recent years. It is just fascinating to me to hear how great it all was, how high everyone was, and how everyone was so devastated when it fell. So few believed it could happen. Greg Smith tells his story, the rise from nothing, to greatness, to the great fall. His accent helps deal with the monotony of his voice. He really could have added more emotion into this, It is HIS story after all. But you can get through it. Still a good book. I would recommend it to those that like the Wall Street Fairy Tales that were...

Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw, The Fault in Our Stars is award-winning-author John Green’s most ambitious and heartbreaking work yet, brilliantly exploring the funny, thrilling, and tragic business of being alive and in love.

Thanks to its treasure trove of proprietary data and army of statisticians and data scientists, led by chief economist Stan Humphries, Zillow has been able to spot the trends and truths of today's housing market while acknowledging that a home is more than an economic asset. In Zillow Talk, Humphries and CEO Spencer Rascoff explain the science behind where and how we live now and reveal practical, data-driven insights about buying, selling, renting, and financing real estate.

Being a realtor, I have a love/hate relationship with Zillow. Mostly hate. But most of my clients come to me with info they found on Zillow, so I thought I would read this and see what I think. I think the book is a great commercial for Zillow...the know all, tell all, real estate website that everyone should go to for their information. Unfortunately, as powerful as it may be, it still can't tell you everything because it just knows what data is sent to it. Sometimes that data is not correct because someone skewed the numbers. Many times something happened in data transfer and what Zillow shows as "for sale" has been sold for years and is not really for sale. I found myself wanting to sit down with the creators of Zillow to have a conversation with them going over point by point everything in this book, because I feel like even in this book they did not tell you everything. They told you what they wanted you to know...just like what they show on their website.

He has taken on giants like British Airways and won, and monsters like Coca-Cola and lost. Now Branson gives an inside look at his strikingly different swashbuckling style of leadership.

Many of the ideas I have heard before, but it never hurts to hear them again from someone else in a different context. I still picked up new tidbits here and there. Mostly I get that I have to have more fun in business. I do take things way too seriously! Smile, laugh and enjoy the process!
