After listening to motivational and business books, I needed something light. Unfortunately, I found myself driving around a lot more just so I could listen to this book...instead of working! It was just fun to hear from Penny after all these years. A fun listen because it was her telling us about her life. It sound just like Penny, but older. Some may say it was a book about all the names she dropped...well...that was her life and it was fun to hear!
I liked how she came from meager roots, didn't have much direction really, and just fell into her life. She never seemed to go after anything, it just came to her. If it worked, great. If not, well...on to the next. Kind of like me...no idea what I want to be when I grow up, I just move from one day to the next and take care of whatever comes along.
I loved that she still sounds just like Laverne. Which she said she played just like herself.
Yes, there are moments when you cry and moments when you laugh. Plenty of moments I didn't even know happened (why would I??). It was fun to have an insider view of Hollywood.
If you love New Yorkers, loved Laverne, like hearing backstage Hollywood stuff that is not on a tabloid, want to be entertained, laugh some, cry some, buy the book. You will enjoy.
The book is sooo much better than the movie! But then, don' we always say that?? Narration is great and story is wonderful. What more can I say?
Being a realtor, I have a love/hate relationship with Zillow. Mostly hate. But most of my clients come to me with info they found on Zillow, so I thought I would read this and see what I think. I think the book is a great commercial for Zillow...the know all, tell all, real estate website that everyone should go to for their information. Unfortunately, as powerful as it may be, it still can't tell you everything because it just knows what data is sent to it. Sometimes that data is not correct because someone skewed the numbers. Many times something happened in data transfer and what Zillow shows as "for sale" has been sold for years and is not really for sale. I found myself wanting to sit down with the creators of Zillow to have a conversation with them going over point by point everything in this book, because I feel like even in this book they did not tell you everything. They told you what they wanted you to know...just like what they show on their website.
It was over too fast! I just realized it was the abridged version...maybe that is why! John C Maxwell always has insightful words for future success. This was just as fabulous as the rest of his works. Just do it! Stop procrastinating and waiting for everything to be done and perfect, JUST DO IT! Then fix what didn't work...fail forward. Makes sense. Now I only have to JUST DO IT! LOL
Narrator is deadly boring. I tried hard to listen, but it seemed the content wasn't relevant to me either. Or was it just that the narrator was dead boring? Don't know, but I got zero out of the 2 chapters I forced myself to listen to.
Loved the narrator, I know some didn't. I enjoyed learning about Sir Richard Branson. He sounds like someone I would like to meet some day and I put him on my list of people I most admire. Many of the ideas I have heard before, but it never hurts to hear them again from someone else in a different context. I still picked up new tidbits here and there. Mostly I get that I have to have more fun in business. I do take things way too seriously! Smile, laugh and enjoy the process!
Great everything - now I have to listen again & probably buy the book so I can put this into practice. A lot to digest the first time around. Not the usual sales book - so be warned!
Narration was as horrible as everyone said. The fake Texas accent...really? Either get a real Texan to read the book or talk right.
I expected some good war stories. Deep insight into the feelings of a warrior. You get none of that. You do get lots of acronyms & what they mean. You get an entire chapter of the various weapons used and how they feel. Guess some would find that interesting. I kept listening...hoping to get to a good part. It never came for me.
I doubt I will see the movie...well, maybe when it gets to Netflix for free. I certainly won't be jumping to get the rest of his books. While Chris Kyle may have been a badass Navy SEAL sniper, he is not a badass writer.
I love Ray Bradbury, but I had never read this book. So I thought I would go for a classic. It has been awhile since I read Bradbury...maybe I forgot...or maybe this was the first book he ever wrote...but it was tough! There was so much overuse of adjectives! It was incredible. I know you need them to draw a mental picture, but this was painful! The story is lost in all those adjectives! But, I listened to the end. The plot was good, but it could have been a short story. :)
I listened to all three. Saw the movies. Love the books. But Carolyn McCormick is missing something in the narration. She reads as an emotionless, condescending child. For a series that is so energy packed and full of emotions, a different narrator should have been chosen.
The business idea is great. Loved the stories. Bought the series to highlight & discuss with my sales force at meetings. Great concepts. Highly recommend.
