The narration was painful. I hope the other books in the series have a different narrator.
The plot was okay, with a different reader (to reduce my annoyance) I may have considered it good.
I haven't kept up with this series but thought I'd check this out since 'Z' is getting close. One can only pray she stops there. Plodding, trite, same blah blah details over and over again. I stuck with it only with the hope of an ending that might make it worth it. No such luck. This reads like writing it was a chore, done only to satisfy a contract with a publisher. Hang it up Sue.
It's been a long time since we've heard from Cormac McCarthy, and this story will leave you feeling it was well worth waiting for. This book is beautifully written, and has great character development; some will scare you to death and some will leave you full of admiration. Tom Stechschulte's narration is -as always- first rate and brings everyone to life. After listening to the book the first time, I immediately listened to the whole thing again - something I never do- to make sure I really captured the complicated tale.
While I usually enjoy James Patterson's work, this one was a huge disappointment. The story is trite, the writing is weak. I would have expected more. To say it's the "Beach Novel of the Year" is merely paid advertising and isn't proven in the listening at all. A disappointing yawn.
This was a hoot. The prose was nicely done, with both a deep message and enough entertainment to keep me laughing out loud. The characters are deeply developed and their stories of the challenges of such impossible tasks will enrich your thinking. A teriffic debut. I look forward to more from David Maine.
I was engrossed in this story from the beginning. The characters are teriffic. The narration by the author (something I usually dislike)is very well done. I didn't want this book to end.
