"My name is Megan Chase. In less than 24 hours, I'll be 17. Although, technically, I won't actually be turning 17. I've been in the Nevernever too long. When you're in Faery, you don't age. So while a year has passed in the real world, agewise I'm probably only a few days older than when I went in. In real life, I've changed so much I don't even recognize myself."

Why we think it’s a great listen: Gaiman’s not just an award-winning author, but a narrator who earns rave reviews – and fields requests from other authors to perform their books, too! Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead....

    Overall

I loved this book! I was very impressed with the authors talent for being so visual. It was rich with description, and made me feel like I could see, hear, and smell everything in the story for myself. What he did with the story and the characters was brilliant. I have listened and will continue to listen to this book again and again! The fact that the author reads this book is genius! He knows exactly the tone of what the characters are saying and thinking, because of this, I feel the story touched me more listening to him than if I had read it myself with my own inner monologue voicing the characters. I would highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

    Overall

I purchased the first two books in this series hoping it would be interesting and was very disappointed. I love history (particularly the history of Scotland) and was excited to find these books, unfortunately they fell very short of my expectations. These books are very slow paced. I found the story more like a soap opera than an action adventure. There were times I was curious to see what happened to the characters, so I would struggle through the painfully slow, sexually explicit parts of the story that make up the majority of the books. However after several instances of sodomy, rape, and finally sexual child abuse, I knew the author would not be changing her pattern of writing more about sexual encounters than advancing the plot. In short, finding out what happened to the characters was not enough of a draw for me to waste my time finishing this series. I would not recommend these books to anyone.

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel.
