I think the books description should have been more clear about the X-rated material. I thought this was going to be an historical novel, but was shocked to find out it was basically all about the sexual exploits between two men. I would never have bought this book had I known. This is not the type of thing I was to listen to back and forth to work.
I didn't listen further than the first three chapters and gave up.
The use of different people reading the book made it seem more real and interesting. The mystery was fun to try and figure out.
I loved that Barbara Kingsolver read the book herself. It allows the listener to hear her words exactly the way she intended. The ending was disappointing, but not because of the way it was written.
I have not read the print vertion.
Willie Keith, the author paints a real picture of a young man going through many life changes and decisions. It was all believable.
I had moments of "oh no, not that" during the book. I like surprises, and this book does have a few.
The characters are well-developed. The reader does a great job of interpreting the different character's voices. It was hard to put the audio book down.
