  • Death Match

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 52 mins)
    • By Lincoln Child
    • Narrated By Barret Whitener
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Thorpes were the perfect couple: young, attractive, and ideally matched. But the veil of perfection can mask many secrets. When the Thorpes are found dead in their tasteful Flagstaff living room, having committed double-suicide, alarms go off in the executive offices of Eden, Incorporated, the worldwide matchmaking phenomenon that uses its astonishing artificial intelligence to create supercouples and guarantee its customers just one thing: lifelong happiness.

Rodney says: "Sounds like something from the WWF, but no..."
    "Great listen"

I've been through so many mediocre books lately that this book was a shining light for me! It was excellently written and the reader did a great job. It did end a bit OTT, but it is, after all science fiction.

I would heartedly recommend this book!

  • Deeper Than the Dead

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Tami Hoag
    • Narrated By Kirsten Potter
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Three children, running in the woods behind their school, stumble upon a partially buried female body, eyes and mouth glued shut. Close behind the children is their teacher, Anne Navarre, shocked by this discovery and heartbroken as she witnesses the end of their innocence. What she doesn't yet realize is that this will mark the end of innocence for an entire community, as the ties that bind families and friends are tested by secrets uncovered in the wake of a serial killer's escalating activity.

John Wayne Tucker says: "A pleasant surprise"
"Good way to spend your credit."

This book is a great listen. Some of the characters/families might be a little over the top, but overall an interesting bunch of people and a gripping series of events. I appreciated the fact that the sex scenes were kept to the minimum (one), as my teenagers also listen to the books and it's always an issue with downloads to find out halfway through the book that the writer threw in some graphic sex scenes (that doesn't even add to the story).

The narrator was very good and the story kept me guessing up to the end. Just as you think you know who the villain is, she throws in a red herring or two. Not a bad buy for your credit.

  • Duma Key

    • UNABRIDGED (21 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By John Slattery

A man discovers an incredible talent for painting after a freak accident in which he loses an arm. He moves to a "new life" in Duma Key, off Florida's West Coast - a deserted strip, part beach, part weed-tangled reef, owned by a patroness of the arts whose twin sisters went missing in the 1920s. Here, Freemantle is inspired to paint the amazing sunsets. But soon the paintings become predictive, even dangerous.

Graham says: "King back to best!"
    "Not bad!"

I am not a Stephen King fan and not really into sci-fi, but I really liked this one. The narrator did a good job and the story is interesting and clean enough for children to listen to too.

  • Angels and Demons

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Dan Brown
    • Narrated By Richard Poe
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

World-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to a Swiss research facility to analyze a cryptic symbol seared into the chest of a murdered physicist. What he discovers is unimaginable: a deadly vendetta against the Catholic Church by a centuries-old underground organization, the Illuminati. Desperate to save the Vatican from a powerful time bomb, Langdon joins forces in Rome with the beautiful and mysterious scientist Vittoria Vetra.

Phillip says: "I couldn't put it down...5 STARS"
    "Deja vu"

This is a second Da Vinci Code!? The basics are different (Illuminati vs Holy Grail), but the rest is the same. The narrator was a bit OTT and dramatic, which started irritating me and distracted from the book.

Not a waste, but I wished I'd rather spent my credit on something else.

  • Paranoia: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 56 mins)
    • By Joseph Finder
    • Narrated By Scott Brick

Adam Cassidy is twenty-six and a low level employee at a high-tech corporation who hates his job. When he manipulates the system to do something nice for a friend, he finds himself charged with a crime. Corporate Security gives him a choice: prison or become a spy in the headquarters of their chief competitor, Trion Systems.

    Karen says: "Clever and interesting."
    "Some good light entertainment"

You have to listen to this book with the right attitude - it's entertaining but not a deep serious work of literature and as such it does a great job. It doesn't take itself too seriously and neither should you. At least it's good clean fun and my teenagers could also listen to it (which is a scarce thing).

  • Trial and Retribution II

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 3 mins)
    • By Lynda La Plante
    • Narrated By Christian Rodska

Identical and needlessly brutal assaults on three women. One woman survives to give a detailed description of her attacker. The police arrest a suspect, Damon Morton, confident he is their man. But three of his employees admit to the crimes. His wife and girlfriend provide him with an alibi. They all declare Damon Morton innocent. The police know he did it. If people lie under oath in a court of law, who can the jury believe?

    Deborah Essary says: "a surprise!"

It could be because the sound quality is terrible, but this book did not make an impression on me. I have just listened to it and can't even remember how it ended. How did they get the sound this bad??

  • Innocent in Death: In Death, Book 24

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By J. D. Robb
    • Narrated By Susan Ericksen
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The death of history teacher Craig Foster devastated his young wife, who'd sent him off to work that morning with a lovingly packed lunch. It shocked his colleagues at the Upper West Side private school. And as for the 10-year-old girls who found him in his classroom in a pool of bodily fluids, they may have been traumatized for life. Lieutenant Eve Dallas, of course, is more hardened to murder cases. And this is clearly a murder case.

    Vicki says: "I Love J D Robb"
    "Could have been better"

Interesting storyline and excellent narrator. But why on earth is Eve and Roarke's marital problems dragged in here? It has nothing to do with the story and only manages to distract and irritate. If not for that I would have given it a 4 star rating.

  • The Lincoln Lawyer

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Michael Connelly
    • Narrated By Adam Grupper
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Steven says: "Great Legal Thriller, Great Reader"
    "Get this book!"

Riveting. I couldn't wait to get back to this book. The narrator was one of the best I've heard in a while and he kept my attention. One problem - I'm not sure what to follow this up with that will match up!!

  • Change of Heart

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Jodi Picoult
    • Narrated By uncredited

June's first husband was killed in a car crash. Against all the odds, her daughter was uninjured and, in another miracle, June found love again with the policeman who rescued them. But now June's second daughter is dying without the new heart she so urgently needs.

    Marti says: "BORING!!"

I can't believe a book with such a thought-provoking subject could be so boring! Talk about rambling on and on and on... This book should have been half as short and would have been much better that way.

However, the narrators are good and the idea is brilliant. The religion theme could bother some people.
