  • The Compleat Enchanter: The Magical Misadventures of Harold Shea

    • UNABRIDGED (22 hrs and 41 mins)
    • By L. Sprague de Camp, Fletcher Pratt
    • Narrated By Ray Chase

The Mathematics of Magic was probably the greatest discovery of the ages - at least Professor Harold Shea thought so. With the proper equations, he could instantly transport himself back in time to all the wondrous lands of ancient legend. But slips in time were a hazard, and Shea's magic did not always work - at least, not quite as he expected.... This omnibus volume of all of the Magical Misadventures of Harold Shea contains The Incomplete Enchanter, The Wall of Serpents and Castle of Iron.

After I've read the review on this compilation, I thought it would be a good read. I have to say that for me the characters make the book for me and this does not deliver. The main character is unlikable petty and stupid. After the first few minutes in all I want is for the character to meet some grizzly end.

  • Fire Games: Pyforial Mage Trilogy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 38 mins)
    • By B.T. Narro
    • Narrated By Bailey Math

Neeko's quiet evening is interrupted when a fire-mage of the king's army comes to his door demanding hospitality for the night. She says war is beginning, but this becomes the least of Neeko's concerns when an altercation erupts between his drunken father and the fire-mage, resulting in his home burned to the ground with his father buried beneath the rubble. His only justice? A redemption scroll - payment for damages if Neeko can bring it to the king's master of coin in the capital before it expires.

Would you try another book from B.T. Narro and/or Bailey Math?

I would never ever touch a book written by B.T. Narro or read by Bailey Math as long as I can help it.

What could B.T. Narro have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Make the character more likable. From beginging to end there isn't one character I doesn't want to slap a few time. None of the character I like.

How could the performance have been better?

Ohh wow, the book was bad, but this guy narration make it 10 time worse. I can't say for sure, the way he narrate make the character more annoying.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Fire Games?

Not scene, at least change the narrator.

    Any additional comments?

    Don't buy the book.

  • The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 2 mins)
    • By Michael Scott
    • Narrated By Denis O'Hare

Nicholas Flamel was born in Paris on September 28, 1330. Nearly 700 years later, he is acknowledged as the greatest alchemist of his day. It is said that he discovered the secret of eternal life. The records show that he died in 1418. But his tomb is empty. The legend: Nicholas Flamel lives, but only because he has been making the elixir of life for centuries. And Sophie and Josh Newman are about to find themselves in the middle of the greatest legend of all time.

    "Terrible Teen Book"
What disappointed you about The Alchemyst?

It is supposed to be a book for teen, but the main character are terrible role model for teen. If you are in trouble run to your suppose friend than abandon them to their death while you run with your tail between your legs.

What was most disappointing about Michael Scott???s story?

Characters that behave dismally, I root for the antagonist and want the protagonist to be killed off. The main characters have no personal character at all.

What three words best describe Denis O'Hare???s performance?

Great performance wasted on this book.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Alchemyst?

I would cut out the main four characters and replace them with other that are more likable.

    Any additional comments?

The book could be so much better if the protagonist have a redeeming character. I would not recommend this book to my worse enemy.

  • Engaging the Enemy: Vatta's War, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Elizabeth Moon
    • Narrated By Cynthia Holloway
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The brilliantly unorthodox Kylara Vatta - black-sheep scion of Vatta Transport Ltd., one of the galaxy's wealthiest merchant houses - is a heroine like no other, blessed with a killer instinct both for business and for battle. Now, in the aftermath of cold-blooded assassinations that have left her parents dead and the Vatta shipping empire shattered, Kylara faces her greatest challenge yet. There is a time for grief and a time for revenge. This is decidedly the latter.

    "Great book terrible narrater"

I would give this audible book a 5 star if not for the narrator. I've read up to book 4 of this series on paperback and now after listening to this narrator I can't bring myself to read the rest of the series due to me hearing the narrator voice in my head whenever I read the series. Be worn if you have read this book and want an audible copy, don't buy it or ruins your enjoyment of the series too.
